There's a Vox article on this that has fantastic quotes about the place of Catherine in the show and in tv representation, being an older woman intellectual badass.
I commented in another friend's DW: I am very psyched to see more Catherine. The rest of the enterprise seems very iffy. I'll watch the 10 episodes, but then I'm done-I have the box set, thank you very much. People pay for Netflix hat has hundreds of shows to binge. Binge the three existing shows plus the new one, and then what? Message boards and wallpapers, which people are already doing out on the free internet? As much as I love Stargate, it is not Star Trek or Harry Potter in terms of fan base.
I got the impression this is the literal origin story of the rediscovery of the Stargate, based on the teaser. I'm not sure we'll see Catherine when she's older. Maybe as an adult, but still in her 20s max. Though it's possible the might follow her life as she tries to keep the project alive, perhaps ending with her heading off to hear Dr. Daniel Jackson speak.
It looks like MGM wants a paid streaming service like CBS, and anchor them with a sci-fi franchise. Except the CBS one will have more than just Star Trek Discovery. They're talking about doing other Stargate shows, but I can't imagine paying for just a couple of shows, when I have easy access to DVDs of the older stuff.
If they did an MGM service with Stargate being one part of it, there might be interest, but people are getting very picky which services they pay for. Why cut the cord if your multiple streaming sites cost as much?
I was all excited-until I watched the trailer and saw that it's just clips from the movie. I looked up the guys named in the article. I don't know any of their work (of which there isn't a huge amount.)
I'm wondering if there's anything actually done for this series beyond a teaser trailer and web site? Any scripts, casting, or even basic concept like when/where it's set?
Are we going to see young Catherine back after the initial rediscovery of the Stargate only, or will we get to see Catherine's quest over the decades to figure out what it does? Will it stick to the tv-verse canon, maybe with a bit of movie mixed in?
I mean... any of it could be interesting, but much like the reboot movie of the original movie that has been under discussion off and on for years now, I'll believe it when I see it.
