"Later, we will spend the night together, and you will not wear a shirt."

For the next two minutes, this post is about Bruce and not about Sheridan's pajamas:

1) This is relevant in my world because my hubby's job is in the political arena; I read (however reliable the source) that Bruce has been banished from "The Righties List" - and a teeny tiny part of me threw a very secret I-consider-myself-an-independent-but-WTF party.

2) I have no idea why SyFy has aired King of the Lost World three times in the last two weeks, but I don't care. It was totally worth it to sit through the (mostly terrible) movie just to hear Bruce say, "Nuke the motherfucker." WIN.

and 3) My husband has informed me that my favorite clip from Zoya is too much like Real People Porn and weirds him out. After further analysis (read: I watched it again when he was not home), I decided he is wrong. As there is no tie-breaker in my house, I win because it's a chick-flick and he wouldn't have watched it without me anyway.

OK, enough.  On with the analytical stuff.

So here's the deal with Sheridan's pajamas.  Season 5 establishes, in any number of John-and-Delenn-are-domestic-or-in-bed scenes, that Sheridan sleeps in what we all recognize as a T-shirt and pajama pants.  I buy this.  It looks comfortable.  He's Human.  It makes all kinds of sense.

BUT.

Back up.  Back up to Season 3 and the final scenes of Shadow Dancing.  Delenn is watching him sleep.

And he is most definitely, very clearly, NOT WEARING A SHIRT.

And she is in a robe.  IN HIS BEDROOM.

The same is true of the brief bit of the "final watch" we see in Season 4's Atonement.

The only other time we see this is at the end of The Deconstruction of Falling Stars, when we presume (er, I presume anyway, because Delenn also appears to be less than fully clothed) that they have just taken a "We're married!  Yea!" roll in the hay.

So.  The shirtless thing and the sleep-watching ritual just doesn't track.  And it bothers me more than it should, really.  They haven't been dating that long, they've barely had a first kiss, and when she suggested that "when this is over, we will spend the night together" - he looked almost... I dunno... a little freaked out.  Like if she hadn't explained herself, he would have said he wasn't ready for that.

After much consideration, and after I mentioned it to someone else who then incorporated it into a fic, I've come up with a few possible explanations:

1. kungfuwaynewho  is right and him being shirtless (or fully nekkid under the covers) is part of the ritual.  We're just supposed to figure that out and keep our minds out of the gutter.

2. Who are we kidding?  They had sex.  And then, like a man, he rolled over and went to sleep just like she wanted.  That robe was clearly too big for her; it was probably his; she pulled it on because she didn't want to walk around his quarters naked all night.  It was drafty.

3. Continuity error.  JMS was a genius, but he wasn't infallible.

4. NHPW, you need a different hobby.  Go read a book or something.

5. Something happened during his captivity on Mars that made him want to sleep in clothes - scars, PTSD, sudden sprouting of chest hair, etc.  He simply was no longer comfortable not wearing clothing unless things were *giggity giggity*.

I welcome anybody else's thoughts, unless they're on option #4. :)
