Things I'm thankful for

Holidays like Thanksgiving where the whole family gets together throws my upbringing in high relief, because while my friends are complaining about their great-aunts or their sister's annoying boyfriend, I'm thinking, I don't have that. That is a truly beautiful story. I love hearing stories of how people met and how relationships formed and changed and all of that. I think they get lost over time, but they doesn't stop them from being beautiful and deeply sweet. The story of your parents is one of those beautiful and just so real stories.

I think Thanksgiving is less about being physically with your family, though that is part of it, but also about remembering the people who aren't there. It's appreciating it. And from the sound of it, your family is definitely worth the reflection. They sound like an amazing collection of people.

I am also a "victim" of privilege. I know it's easier said than done, but there's no point in feeling bad about the things you're lucky enough to have. Instead, best to use them to your own greatest advantage, so you can give back the most to the world.

Cliche (and hypocritical) of me to say, I know. But sometimes hearing it from someone else helps.

On another note, there are a lot of interesting details I'm sure you could add to that "how my parents met" story. You'll have to fill them out later...

Yes, you deserve those wonderful things, and so does everyone else. Absolutely. It's something I wish more people considered. :/
