It actually is not possible for us to enable payments for any account, or to re-enable automatic payments if someone has turned off the plan. We do not store the full credit card information and authorization in a way that can do that here at LJ at all -- all financial transactions are processed at the time they occur through our secure credit processor. Which means that a person must be actively enrolled in the plan in order for that authorization to exist. Once it's turned off (or if you've never been in it), we simply don't have the information necessary to put through a charge.

If anyone has any questions about their automatic payments in any way, though, they should absolutely contact our Billing department directly, who can provide a detailed response for any account holder.

Well, I know for a fact that I did NOT turn on automatic billing when I renewed after last year's clusterfuck, but you still tried to charge my credit card a couple weeks ago. Thank God my card had renewed and I hadn't changed the information.

So, why did you turn off my custom comment page? I know it was on, I've been using it since you turned the default page into a clusterfuck. Explain..

Very sorry about that -- when 88.2 rolled out, there was a short period of time where the 'use customized yes/no' setting was flipped to 'no' for some users for some reason. It was fixed and the setting reverted to the previous choice as quickly as they could get the fix out (if the owner hadn't already noticed and switched it themselves).

They should have added that to this post. Thank you for answering.

We still haven't been able to re-enable custom comment pages at our various comms: onepassingnight and passingooc and passinconscious as well as with this account passingmod.

Although they are checked 'no', and thus we should see custom comment pages with the subject headers, we are not. How can we fix this?

Having that setting set to 'No' should definitely be using the regular S2 customized pages (where you'd see subject lines), so I'm suspecting this is a bug with a specific style in some way. Please open a Support ticket [http://www.livejournal.com/support/submit.bml] on this, if you could -- be sure to list which style/theme you're using for each one, etc.

Hey, thanks for all your very patient and polite responses, despite all this pressure bearing down on you. I'm not necessarily satisfied with your answers, but I appreciate that you're trying to communicate with us in a kind way.

I'm almost willing to bet it's an issue with that style then, because I'm using it too and the same thing happened to me.

Considering 88.2 wasn't released until today, I'd like to know why it ignored my preference to use my own style yesterday and then randomly went away without my making any changes at all while I was looking for a Greasemonkey script to do what my paid account should allow for me to do already.

And if it's so hard to code in a preview button, why has it only taken less than 48 hours for someone to release a script to show us one on this layout? I'm using it now, it works perfectly fine, so it's obvious there is something in the code that allows for this or the script wouldn't even work.

It's good to know that it isn't actually possible to be charged, but in that case you seem to have a glitch on your hands that is distressing your userbase and damaging your credibility still more. Even if it's only a display problem, you need to fix it.

Thank you for the prompt reply to this.

So every browser (different browsers, even!) had the same error on the same day? That makes sense to you? Even to users that have never used automatic payments?

Even if nothing was actively done to turn it on, it still happened. All this "explanation" does is make LJ look more dubious.

This. I find it hard to believe that ALL OF A SUDDEN, everyone's browsers auto-filled info from possibly months ago. Or for some people, info that was never EVER there.

So you're saying somehow my browser data from a computer that is not even in existence anymore somehow hijacked this computer and used a browser that was not in use back then as well, to input this data and turn on my automatic payments? Because mines were certainly on today and I have never done an automatic payment on this computer in my life.

What astronewt wrote is correct; it's not possible for LJ's system to turn on automatic payments for someone. This is because of how the system works.

I'm trying to look into what you might have experienced that caused it to seem like they had been turned on for your account, but I'm not finding any automatic payment information for your account. If an account isn't currently enrolled in automatic payments, and never has been, there is no automatic payment information for us to look at. Do you have any alternate accounts?
