Hi! We weren't sure where to bring this, so I thought I'd place it here for now in hopes of a response as to where to direct further inquiries.

As you may or may not have heard, yesterday there was a terrible earthquake in Christchurch, NZ, made all the worse by the fact that a previous 7.1 earthquake in September with continuous aftershocks ever since had weakened building structures.

The current death toll is 75, with at least 300 missing. You can find more information here on the damage done to the city. Aftershocks are expected to last for months.

Many of us had the idea that it would be incredible if Livejournal could do some kind of Vgift, aimed towards donating to the Red Cross of New Zealand (Maybe something in the shape of a kiwi!), to help out the families and LJ users in NZ. It would be a great fundraiser, and a wonderful outreach by Livejournal and its userbase. There are lots of us who would willingly donate, participate, or help out as needed!

On behalf of New Zealanders, can I just say how much this would mean to us. We're a very small country, and this disaster has hit us all extremely hard; every person in this country has lived in Christchurch, or studied there, or has friends and family there, or is right in the middle of the chaos right now. Every little bit would help, and if LJ could get behind this as it so often does with other disasters, it would be greatly appreciated.
