Baby's ear infection is finally down to a sloshy level, after two rounds of antibiotics. She only had one try left before they called in the ENT. I still want to take her swimming, but not sure she'll enjoy having liquid on both sides of her eardrum ( Read more... )

Typanostomy is made of Win for kiddos with chronic ear congestion/infection. The kids' eustachen (sp) tubes are sometimes just too small to do a proper job of draining the middle/inner ear, tympanostomy to the rescue.

My son had his first set installed when he was about 18mo old, with an adenoidectomy. The last set went in when he was about to start kindergarten, worked their way out approximately 10 months later. He's 12 now, has no documentable hearing loss and has had neither ear nor sinus infection since preschool.

I recommend Pat Connelly if you do go to an ENT.

I remember when I had ear infections (ended up with PE tubes twice and was supposed to get a third set). I absolutely hated bathing, swimming, the wind and cold. Water, pressure changes, and temperature changes were like piercing my ear with an ice pick.

In other words, I'd recommend staying away from the swimming and bathe her carefully.

And there is ALWAYS more that needs doing. Maybe finding a Mommy group in the area would help with coordination?
