And she cries

I don't know how to explain it, but there's a difference in the cries that lets me know that she's no longer just fussy, but has an actual problem. I can very easily sleep thru and ignore the fussing, but when that panic note hits, I'm up.

Of course that usually means poor exhausted daddy gets all the fussing. But right now I'm going thru a kind of ( Read more... )

The baby's no better off if you go cuckoo from lack of sleep. Do what works for you. You can try the dryer trick (put her in car seat, put car seat on dryer, run dryer) or glider/rocker trick (put her in car seat, put car seat in rocker/glider, rock baby with foot).

I used to sleep on the floor and rock Sam in the glider with my hand while I slept. Nuts, but it worked.

Co-sleeping is a wonderful thing. Baby starts to wind up, stick her on a boob, go back to sleep. Later when baby starts to wind up again pull her to your chest, roll over, stick her on the other boob and go back to sleep again.

When Zach was a baby, the "rule" was to lay him on his side. So we propped him up with a special pillow. Later, he slept on his stomach, but he always stuck his butt up high in the air, so we didn't worry too much about his breathing. We also had those baby monitors. I couldn't go to sleep at night unless I heard him take a good deep breathe first. At the time, we had a two story house, and we moved him downstairs *early*--like 4 weeks old. When he was in the room with me, every little thing woke me up.

Even after Zach wasn't a baby and Glen used to travel periodically, Zach always slept with me when Glen was gone. There's few things as a sweet baby snuggled up to asleep.

If she's going to sleep in the crib, just remove the pillows/stuffed animals if she sleeps face down. You can get one of those pillows that force them to stay on their back, but those only work until they learn to roll over.
