I was disappointed by it... though I still haven't finished it.
To be honest? I HATE the battle system. It's too automated now. I mean, with an RPG you need to find ways to engage the gamer more, not less. It felt more like I was watching the game, rather than playing it. And with the amount that it seems you need to level up, it becomes extremely tedious.
I liked the characters and the story, the music at times forgettable but still gorgeous, and the voice acting was half decent.
The battle system really was bad! So boring. Plus I hated when you had your gambits off the game froze for a bit while you select commands. What's the sense of that? Final Fantasy was the one of the most pressuring games I have ever played. By having the option to have the game freeze while selecting commands kind of ruined that "pressuring" feeling that often pushed me to my limit. And having it on automatic is worse! You just walk and don't even press anything. You can even go make a sandwich and come back while your players fight for themselves. Very lame in my opinion. So yeah...I'm with yah. ^^
I loathe the battle system--if I wanted something to do the gameplay for me, I'd watch a damn movie. The characters are bland--some, like Balthier, are pretty kickass, but Vaan? No.
It's pretty, but it doesn't feel like it was actually fully realized, which is really crappy because I actually shelled out the extra money for the special edition and stuff. I'm not even very far into the game, and I'm already tired of it.
I was very disappointed with it when I finished. I enjoyed playing it. Well, I did get bored about 105 hours in and decided to give up on trying to do everything and just finish the game. But something just didn't jive the entire time I was playing it and I couldn't figure out what it was exactly until the end

I think the hardest thing was that the game lost the personal edge that Final Fantasy games had in the past. Yes, you were usually running about to save the world, but you were saving the world for the characters. There were stronger characterizations, and character relations, in the previous games

Oh, so much word. I do like the game, a lot, but it's definitely one of my least favourite Final Fantasies. Before I bought the game, I read a few reviews of FFXII, and they all raved about the 'adult' storyline. So, I looked forward to a great game with a great, complicated plotline. But I'm reaching the end of the game (all I'm doing now is finishing the side-quests before going to Bahamut) and...meh

Yes. This is basically what I was trying to say, but I've never been good with wording stuff. Someone DOES empathize with me on this topic!
The game was good, but not the best. it just seems that the majority of reviewers and gamers and raving it as "The Best FF Ever," which is a title I dont think quite applies to this game.
Come to think of it, I dont think there could EVER be a "Best FF Ever," because everyone has their own preferences. FFXII just didn't fit mine, I suppose.

Nothing better than Final Fantasy and PB&J!
But, yeah. The battle system was pretty lame.
