You have a point there about emotional age, he's not only been through a lot but he comes from an earlier age. 30 years can make a huge difference on society, especial in a technological one - just comparing the 2000s with the 1970s is a good way of thinking about how different things can be.

As I stated in a comment in your LJ, the orginal booklet stated that he was 27, and the stuff that happened to him was 30 years ago, then you add 3 for the events in DC so that is where we all get the number 60.

And, to refresh people's memories, in some characters one of the effects of extreme high intensity mako exposure is that they stop aging. I have no idea if this is permant or it comes back over time, but for now, it seems that they have flat out stopped aging.

Okay... so I would say Chronologically he's 60, Mentally he is older than everyone else (I can't tell you the exact number here), but physically he is still 27, when he got shot by Hojo.

I guess the old saying of "You're only as old as you feel" would apply.

As for sleep counting for age... well no matter what you do, time still passes so I would say that it counts.

The idea of "You're only as old as you feel" seems to be probably the most applicable thing to Vincent, really. I guess it leaves the real question as being "How old does Vincent feel?".

Life :(

The cruel gears of this world ever turning grinds onward toward my empty demise.

Err... um. Sorry. Goth poetry night.

Anyway.

I’m not going to say. Every time I say something on a forum, live journal, public restroom- I piss people off. However, I will state that this number can be calculated by vague, chronological mentions thought the game. One is 27. One is 23. And, one is 2. Thus providing us with an accurate measure of my Valentine’s physical age.

Of much more relevance to the post, I believe his physical age to be in direct coalition with the feigned psychological one. One could assume that Vincent’s “sleep” was more of a metaphor for “wallow in pain and woe while listening to Stabbing Westward track 15 on loop for 25 years.”

I've always seen Vincent's emotional age as being a bit more in line with his biological age just because of how much he has been through...but then, what is the average life of a hume in Gaia? Vincent is mature, experienced, jaded, and calculated which lend to an older emotional age in which he has learned not to rush into situations but rather look at them from every angle, but if the lifespan of a hume is similar to the physiological lifespan of humans in our own world, 60 may be on the side of aging, and I do not seen Vincent as approaching elderly. He has retained his mental strength and prowess, but responds to situations as though he were older and less rash than Cid and Barrett, who are both older than the age at which he was frozen.

I don't believe I actually answered the question...oops! I think Vincent is far more mature than 27, however I do not feel he is quite what the average 60 would be. (keyword being *average...* definitely not trying to stereotype or generalize based on age!)

Very well said. The idea of also counting his emotional age only came up with replies to this post and you've covered the idea very well.

He's not an "old man", but neither is he young and innocent - no matter what his cronological or physical age may be.

I think that Vincent's mental age is older than when his aging process was frozen at 27 because of all that he went through not just from Hojo but from being a Turk. The Turks especially at the time when Vincent was one (when Shinra was in his thirties perhaps?) had to do some really terrible things. That would jade a person pretty quickly.

I don't think his mental age is 60 because since the aging process was frozen no brain cells would have been destroyed in the 30 years he was asleep. But in my opinion he would have a much more mature outlook than his Avalanche companions simply because of everything he has gone through.
