The Role(s) Of The Final Fantasy Female Characters

May 21, 2006 17:14

As we all know, all of the Final Fantasy games have something in common. But did any of you notice that all, if not, most of the Final Fantasy games have females that play roles that are more important then the actual main character? I just find that to be pretty interesting. I'm not saying that the main characters of Final Fantasy were not ( Read more... )

Dagger in FF9 was important too, not just because she was the target of the kidnapping, but because she had the power to destroy the world that her mother manipulated. Though she starts out as a tomboy in distress, she slowly evolved into a pivotal character whose fate became intwined in Zidane's. Sorry, I haven't played it in a while, but this is just from what I remember.

This is shameful for me to admit, but I have never played Final Fantasy 9. :( I've only played FF7, FF8, FFX, and FFX-2. Nevertheless, my friend is letting me borrow his in a few days, so I'll have the pleasure of learning all about it. I heard it's awesome game though. :D

Oh and I saw the bones in Advent Children. When the cellphone hit the bottom of the lake, that's when I saw what you was talking about. I thought* those were rocks all this time, lol. :P

I'll have to post up a picture.

I've actually always kind of viewed Yuna as the main character in X--even though Tidus is the playable character and has the whole "this is MY story" motif going, the entire plot is driven by Yuna's pilgrimmage, and in all of the FF logos the Amano art behind the text has to do with the main driving point behind the story--in VII it is meteor, VIII Squall and Rinoa, IX the Eidolon crystal, and in X it is Yuna. I've always kind of seen Tidus more as the narrator, telling Yuna's story from his own point of view, but with her as the main character.

But yeah, you're right, the girls often have a large role. Even in the earlier games--I don't know as much about them, but I know Rosa in IV was a major character, and both Terra and Celes in IV push the plot forward just as much, if not more, than any of the men in the party.

Wow, thinking of Yuna as the main character is pretty awesome, and it's quite true. I mean even the back cover of the game cover focuses on her, lol. Tidus' "My story" speech had me going, it was corny, yet so awesome. Oh yeah, she is the FFX logo, lol, I forgot that one. :P

The question of Rinoa really depends on how nessecary she was in the process of returning Ultimecia to her own body and starting Time Compression.
The way I got it, it seems Ellone needs someone else to send back into the past, and in that particular event she could only use a Sorceress and the only sorceress on their side was Rinoa.

Also, I get the idea that doing all that - sending Rinoa and Ultimecia back into Adel and retrieving Rinoa alone - was what triggered Time Compression. Ellone's abilities are a very big part of it but Rinoa may have been a needed part of starting Time Compresseion.

And as for Tidus - he thought he'd travelled through time, didn't he?

Wow...I'll have to research more about Ellone. I totally overlooked how big and confusing her role is, lol. :P

For a relatively minor character Ellone has a very large influence in the whole story.

Her departure was what made Squall so anti-social, her powers were what was causing Squall to see Laguna's past, her powers were what originally caused Laguna to go to Esthar and defeat Adel (because Adel had her kidnapped), her powers were the key to Time Compression Ultimecia was after, and her powers started Time Compression so Squall could reach Ultimecia's true body and kill her.

For a character who had not much overall screentime she had one hell of a big effect on all the events.

Play FFIX and you can update this with Dagger, who plays a big part in the game since she was female royalty who isn't really fond of her royal roots and breaks away to become a pivotal character in the games storyline. It's all about the power of the female, yet X-2 probably shows this more.

I'm also surprised you didn't mention X-2, the whole main cast is female!

That's a theme that runs through most FF games, the power of the female.

Yeah I shall do that. My friend Kadir is letting me borrow his FF9, so I can't wait. I'm hooked on Kingdom Hearts at the moment, lol. I don't know why I thought the game was a waste, it's awesome. Then I'm going to tackle KH2. :D

I deserved to be whipped for forgetting X-2. Then again, it wasn't that great of a game, nevertheless...I still should have brought it up. :P

Lol, you can say that agin. ;)
