[He speaks slowly and fluently- it's a language he knows, rather than something that's simply erring with the translator. It's vaguely familiar- those who are well versed in Indo-European languages may be able to understand a word or two- but for the most part, should be completely alien ( Read more... )

[Al frooowns. Then scribbles a greeting in Amestrian on a card and holds it up.]

[Thaaaat's one he doesn't know. Which is strange. And a little disconcerting.

Yuca speaks a few more words of gibberish, repeating himself in different languages- Gaelic, French, German- looking for something Al could understand. 'This is a little annoying,' he says in all of those.]

[Al frowns, then hesitates. Amestrian and English aren't too different. Carefully, he letters a new sign, one in English, this time, and another in Japanese. English says, "do you understand English?" and Japanese is in Romanji, because he can't remember all of his hiragana. "Wakarimasu ka?", or "Do you understand?" After all, Al's Japanese is very, very broken.]

[He smiles, nodding and speaking- the translator incorrectly deciphers it into Mandarin, and Yuca purses his lips before looking for a paper and penciling in the word 'Both' in English. 'But only old Japanese.']

I've never heard those languages before...they sound kinda like a few old languages mixed together.

*His Italian sounds kind of stiff, like he learned it from a book instead of a person and he's clearly speaking it on purpose.* Maybe English? I'm not sure about other worlds, but pretty much everyone in my world speaks a version of it.

I don't know how soon it will be before the PCD scrambles it again though.

Are you versed in many other languages?

I... have understood this.

[His Japanese is old, very strange sounding to anyone who speaks the current language. Like someone quoting Shakespeare to a modern day English speaker.]

It is- uncomfortable? Ara... 'disconcerting'.

[She switches to a different dialect, not as ancient as his own, but akin to 15th century samurai speech.]

[The language used is Vincent native tongue, Wutaian. While it bears some resemblance to some old Earth Asian languages, it is, still, from another planet, and as such one of the few languages that Yuca will probably not understand at all.]

anta ga iita koto shiranu.

((I don't understand what you said.))

[Alright- he switches to Chinese, since it seems to be at least a little similar phonetically.]

Is this any better?
