[He speaks slowly and fluently- it's a language he knows, rather than something that's simply erring with the translator. It's vaguely familiar- those who are well versed in Indo-European languages may be able to understand a word or two- but for the most part, should be completely alien ( Read more... )

I've never heard those languages before...they sound kinda like a few old languages mixed together.

Does it? I'm trying to figure out something everyone can understand.

*His Italian sounds kind of stiff, like he learned it from a book instead of a person and he's clearly speaking it on purpose.* Maybe English? I'm not sure about other worlds, but pretty much everyone in my world speaks a version of it.

I don't know how soon it will be before the PCD scrambles it again though.

Are you versed in many other languages?

*His English, interestingly, sounds just as textbook.* Oh, right, most people here would only speak late Lost Jerusalem English...

A few, mostly the main languages from just before humanity left Earth.

Ah- you're from a future time than me. I hope I don't sound to primitive!

[He laughs. That's universal, right?]

No, it's fine. I just hope I don't sound too stiff. This is the first time I've ever actually held a conversation in anything but current English.

You're doing wonderfully. It takes a lot of dedication to speak an old language.

I like learning stuff like this. I just wish I could find more books from that era.

I'm sure there are some in the library here. If you want, I could try to teach you some other languages too.

Most of them seem to be translated to the version of English I usually speak. It might be different now, though.

*The excitement at the offer is audible in his voice, but he forgot to use "late Lost Jerusalem English" and at first it comes out as something with the same general feel as English but it's been a few thousand years and is very different. When he realizes he forgot, though, he stops.* Oops, sorry. In case the PCD didn't translate that, I said "That would be great! It's pretty hard to find books or files on old languages back home."

Oh- of course. I don't mind in the slightest- we'd probably have to meet up in person after the event though, so the PCD doesn't just automatically translate whatever I'm saying into your English.

Probably a good idea.

You were there at the library, right?

Mmhm. I was happy to help- I love reading in my free time anyway.

It is a good way to pass time, and you can learn a lot of stuff.

(You wanna do a log for them meeting in person for this or just assume it happened?)

You can! I know quite a bit about my planet's history, thanks to it. I'd love to hear about your universe though, if we do meet up.

[[ooc: I don't mind them logging, but if you're busy, I'm cool with assuming <3. Whatever works!]]
