When you mentioned your new obsession I had to look it up. Luckily wiki helped. :) If I have time next week (because my next days are awefully busy), I'll have to see if I can't find the movie somewhere...

This piece is really thoughtful written. I like how absolute the control of Ben Wade over his men is. The follow is every word, as if it was law or gospel. And the admiration in Prince is in every word.
Than Wade is drawning is interesting... is it a part of the movie? It hints at a hidden intelligence, intellectuality.

The description of the scenery and all the little details from the guns, to the word choice was great. For example, I've never heard of a Schofield before...

And then the comparison of the horse to the men, and Prince. The horse obeys, the men obey, there seems to be no difference.
The last quote drove that comparison really home. I wonder how Ben sees his own men... as true friends, I think not. More like... the horse. Something you care for, love a bit, but is ultimately not that important besides it uses.

Well, the obsession is not truly new - the movie came out 2007 ("Todeszug nach Yuma"), but I only watched it together with my father when he got it 2009 for his birthday. Since then, I was fascinated with Ben Wade, but only my most recent re-watch sparked an idea I thought I might actually be able to write down. - I'm totally out of my depth with the Western genre, or horses °-° I only rode a horse for three riding lessons once and only read Winnetou - but in German ( ... )
