005 [Typed]: Replicators?

Where does everything come from here? I mean the food and the clothing, all of that? I know about the requisitions, didn't manage to miss that part. But it's all got to come from somewhere, hasn't it? Is it all from some other dimension, too, just whisked away like all of the people? Is someone on some Earth going to wake up with their couch ( Read more... )

It's an amusing idea, isn't it?

And very possible. After all, it would even explain how they were able to rebuild the old compound and even construct new buildings so quickly -- a matter of hours. But it's not necessarily the case. It still seems a little far-fetched.

Just a bit!

It is, yeah, but not as much as it all being created out of nowhere. It could all be from somewhere on this world, but that'd mean there's things growing and being made somewhere, and wherever that was, it'd have to be vulnerable to some sort of attack.

There are rumors other sites exist... and you could say they must, or we wouldn't have had somewhere to come to when the compound became unstable. But equally, you could say we should have been brought somewhere that already had Drafted living there.

Besides, the Wall here was put in place shortly after we arrived, so this site definitely wasn't already set aside to be contained yet.

Having other sites would make sense. Less risk of the whole thing getting wiped out in one go. Maybe this compound hadn't been populated yet, and was just being made ready so it could be used if they needed it?

If that's the case this place should be a flood of left socks from Dryers in the whole cosmos.

Ummm Option 1) Spiritual world.

But I doubt this one.

2) Someone tapped into Chaos itself.

I don't think many people are going to ask for missing socks...

Chaos. You say that like it's some sort of actual thing.

Well it is, in it's minor form humanity unto itself is a being of chaos.

Think about an untouched woods. It never evolves, it follows the same pattern of seasons over and over again. The chaos of storms is the only thing that causes a fire, even then the storm is logical.

But humanity is a form of constant evolution, and in evolution things must change.

Chaos is like that, it's not evil or good.

Think of it like fresh air, it's always moving, if it didn't air would be like the air inside the tombs of Egypt. Eventually stagnant, poisonous and it leads to your death.

From a replicator, I think. That's how it's done in my world, anyway.

Yeah? How do they work?

A replicator generates matter by configuring basic materials according to molecular templates stored in a database. In other words, as long as the original data exists, it can be used to create any object whatsoever.

I think that's why we can't requisition things that are specific to our worlds.

Sounds a bit familiar, really, now that you mention it. And not just from science fiction.

I sort of thought that might just be too specific to pin down. I mean, if it would have to search through all those alternate worlds...
