heh heh, i'm a dork

I recently created a facebook group called "I EARNED my geek stripes," dedicated to real geeks instead of the "geek chic." If I don't know you (and thus know you're a real geek), you're required to send a geeky story in order to get in. Gotta separate the real dorks from the riff-raff somehow. Today I received a message from a hopeful. His geek ( Read more... )

Wow, that's...kind of creepy. :x

The guy finding you through your high school notebook, I mean, not the group. The group is cool, but I am not geeky enough nor do I have a facebook. :P

I would have to agree with that comment. I am pretty geeky, and I know a lot of geeky people... But Jenni you are one of the geekiest I have ever met.

Aww, I can't get a facebook.

Oh gods, the other day in the store I saw this HUGE fat kid who looked to be somewhere between 8-10 years old wearing a t-shirt that had a nintendo controller on it and said "O.G - Original Gamer". I wanted to hit him hard enough to knock the shirt off him. Like that kid's probably ever even SEEN an original nintendo.

I HATE people like that.

Yeah...my description of the quintessential "geek chic" poseur is the kid with the trucker hat and the 1up t-shirt. Like they'd even know where to GET a 1up mushroom.

i'm w/ kevin - you can't just write "jodie fosterified" and not provide an explanation. sheesh.

also, i'm proudly claiming trucker hats in the name rednecks and other rural bank patrons everywhere. you can keep the 1up shirt, but trucker hats are not geek heritage. (by the way, i have a theory that the whole trucker hat fashion phenomenon can be traced back to the band Grandaddy - anybody got contradictory evidence?)

The whole point is that they're people who are doing it for fashion and the trucker hat gives them away. Sheesh.

As for "Jodie Fosterified," Kevin I'm surprised you don't remember! It had like, every picture of her ever taken plastered on the outside (or inside) cover.

alright, alright - i just had to get in some sort of association with a faintly fringe/minority group sin ce i wasn't invited to your little geek facebook party :P. though if having a notebook awash in jodie foster is what it takes to get in, i surely don't qualify and i'm pretty sure i don't want to :P :P.

sheesh :P :P :P.

I'm a cupcake penguin (incidentally, I wrote "pupcake fenguin" first, which really amuses me. pupcake! that might be molly's new nickname)

isn't, you know, being a member of a geek facebook group somewhat... uhrm... geek chic?

I'm just throwin' it out there.

Also, I requested to join the group.

Heh heh, part of the point (at least this is what I tell myself) is that as tormented geeky youths, we deserve our moment in the fashion spotlight, but everyone else should stfu and stick with their popped collars.
