Ellie's faith in angelic honesty had been sorely tested of late, and she didn't quite believe Aziraphale's claim that he was fine, but she nodded and let it pass. He'd have ample opportunity to sleep at the Manor, if that was what he needed. "I'm sure they will. You're good at what you do, and often it doesn't take much to sway their courses." In either direction, of course, but that went without saying. "Things have been pretty quiet here, when I've been around. Um. Uriel had her baby." She studiously kept her gaze on her teacup. "And we seem to have a Sphinx living in the basement, did you know? But most of the regulars seem to be lying low right now ( ... )

"Aziraphale, you darling! Don't you dare apologize." Ellie accepted the small package, her color rising slightly at the surprise and pleasure of an unexpected gift. Why is it always the off-limits ones who know how to treat a girl right, she wondered, remembering the pretty bracelet Crowley had given her months before as she slipped off the ribbon and opened the box.

"I know," he blurted, "there's no photos in it now, but I thought perhaps - well, you didn't need them, so it wouldn't matter if it was empty. I mean."

He was more than a little red.

"Oh..." Ellie lifted out the sparkling locket nested in cotton inside the box by its slender chain. "It's beautiful."

Examining the delicate pattern etched on the front and then carefully popping the clasp, she studied the empty spaces meant for portraits somberly. "I'm sure I'll find pictures to put in it," she said after a moment. She would never have one of Tali, and the child remained a question mark; but there was Aziraphale himself, and Crowley, and Belial (whom she dearly hoped to see again one day,) and she found she could dare to hope there might be others. "Thank you, Aziraphale dear."

"Er. You're very welcome, then," he said, looking again at the light reflecting off the locket. "I should, er, probably head off, you know."

"If you must." Ellie smiled ruefully. "You look tired. You should go and get some rest. Oh, um...have you found a room?" She could only hope he already knew Crowley had asked John to take over the one Aziraphale had previously occupied.

Matching her look with some internal amusement, he waved a hand airily. "Oh, somewhere on the third floor, I believe. Not to worry. I thank you, though, for letting me stay here before. You are truly kind. Ta, my dear. Keep in touch."

With that and a peck on the forehead goodbye, he took his leave proper.
