Standing in the Manor's main doorway, at an agle where he could watch the boys at their game without being seen, John turned and stage-whispered back, "Few minutes yet, at least. Looks like they're having a grand time."
He had his doubts about whether they could really keep a lid on this thing, but what the hell. It was an entertaining way to spend the afternoon, at the very least. And--not that he'd have admitted this if asked--it was kind of a kick to see everybody pulling together to do it. Well. All right, not everybody, but a fair few.
Uriel looked up at the half-shouted exchange. "Time for what?" she asked curiously. "What are you up to, exactly?" She then grinned. "And can I be of help in any way?"
She needed something to do. Anything that required stage-whispers sounded like perfect activity for a boring afternoon.
Agreeing with John, Aziraphale nodded, watching the game closely. He was sure they'd be at least a few minutes longer. He was also quite sure he'd never seen Adam in shorts quite so... short.
Then Uriel interrupted, and the angel glanced at her. "Ah... yes, actually. Could you go over and give Pepper a hand before she hurts herself?" The ladder was far more steady than it would have naturally been, but even so. "Or decorating advice, perhaps."
So they weren't telling her what it was, eh? Well, that only sounded more exciting. Making her way to the bar, she found three humans and a ladder. And some rather bright-coloured decorations.
"May I ask what is going on?" she asked, walking to Pepper's side. "Aziraphale told I could help. I'd be glad to do anything I can." As long as it didn't involve climbing that ladder. She didn't trust her balance in her current condition, and a fall might have disastrous results.
Anathema, deciding to take a short break, thought stretching her legs a good idea, made her way towards the bar hoping to get a soft drink before going back.
She stopped when she saw Pepper on a ladder putting up decorations of some kind. "Hello Pepper. What's the special occassion, or are you up there just for fun?"
Pepper nodded at John's estimate. She only hoped it would be enough time. "Wensley, few mintues!"
She started a bit when she heard Anathema's voice behind her. The ladder made her a little nervous, up as high as she was. Turning around on it, she kneeled down and whispered in Anathema's ear. She smiled. "Wanna help?"
With a big smile Anathema nodded. "Sure! Sounds fun and I doubt I will be needed in the hospital any time soon."
Looking at the supplies on the ground, she picked around in them until she found what she was looking for. Which happened to be practically what Pepper was nailign to the walls. Well, at least it would fit with the rest of the colour pattern. Do you want me in here or in the Lobby?"
"Wensley, a few minutes!" he heard Pepper half-cry, half-whisper as he re-entered the bar, laden with bowls full of different flavours of potato crisps. Laying them neatly on the bar, he walked over to the ladder.
"What else needs to be done, Pep?" he asked, holding on to the other side of the ladder.
Pepper looked around frantically, trying to determine where the voice was coming from. As a result, she almost pitched herself right off the ladder again, but luckily Wensley was holding it. She shot him a grateful look, put one last staple in the wall and came down the ladder.
"Well, I sent Brenda to see if we had plastic cups to use, but I'm not sure about the rest of the food set up. I figured you'd know what to do." She scratched the back of her neck before spotting a white tarpish looking thing sprawled on a nearby table. "Bloody hell, the banner! We forgot to put it up! Quick!" She scrambled for the ladder again.
Pepper grabbed one end of the banner out of Wensley's hand and let him hold the rest as she hung it up on some tiny hooks that they'd already prepped.
"Dunno," she said exasperatedly. Party-throwing was never something that learned much about. She probably should have paid more attention to Adam's mum. She always knew how to do all that fancy stuff. "Cheese and biscuits? A vegetable platter?"
She clapped a hand over her mouth. She couldnt believe she let those words slip out. She stared down a Wensley miserably. "Don't you dare tell anyone I said that! God, I really am startin' to sound like my mum..."
Luna walked into the bar to find it, well, not magically transformed per se, but still transformed. The place was a curious, cheerful mess. Practically half the walls were covered in fuschia decorations. She walked back out again to check that she was indeed in the bar. Well, that was alright then.
Walking up to the girl on the ladder, she asked, "Are these decorations useful in warding off some kind of pest?"
Pepper blinked curiously and looked down to find a very blonde girl, not too far from her age it seemed, staring up at the streamers in puzzlement. Well, that was one question she hadn't been expecting to encounter today. But she figured any sort of question about why she would ask that would involve a conversation more in depth than they could afford at that moment. She'd have to ask the girl later.
"No," Pepper told her with snort. "Good guess, though. Actually, they're for - " and she whispered the rest in the girl's ear like she had done twice before. "We're almost done setting up, looks like. If you want to, you can help Anathema, she's over there decorating tables. Or you can just wait around for it. It should be a lot of fun, if everything goes right."
"Oh. Oh!" This last was a suppressed shout and Luna turned to survey the decorations. "It sounds like fun. I've never been to anyone's um- you-know-what before." She had been about to say the forbidden words. This was really exciting! "I'll just go and see if Anathema needs my help then," smiled Luna up at Pepper. "By the way, I'm Luna."
"Pepper," Pepper said by way of introduction, smiling back at the girl enthusiastically. "Nice to meet you, Luna. I'm sure Anathema with be grateful for the help."
The Doctor, hands in his pockets and frowning slightly, wandered into the bar. He was looking for Mictain. (Well, that's not actually true, he was looking for his screwdriver, but if he could find Mictain that would be a help. The demon was so much better at looking for thins.)
"Has anyone seen my - ?" he began, but then stopped.
He looked around. He considered the new surroundings. "Nice," he said. "Re-decorating. Need any help?"

"Er, here would be good," Pepper said, glancing around at the still-far-too-bare-walls. "I need all the help I can get, as you see."

"I brought crisps, pretzels, and the cake. What other food do you think we need?"
