1) Late Tuesday or early Wed (don't remember if it was after midnight), Scratch (that's the name of this PC) locked up and crashed. He does that periodically, but this time, when I tried to reboot, I got a message that the hard drive had failed ( Read more... )

Eek! I know what the dying comp thing is like...it seems like I just start letting go of the paranoia with a new one when it starts fucking up and I get to freak out all over again.

Unfortunately, there isn't a good way *to* back up this pc. CD player only; no BNC ports; no writable CD drive. Maybe I can get the setup my bro got me working with this pc though...I never tried it (external CD r/w, originally intended for the laptop...but I *think* it can work on one of the other ports. I don't care if it's *slow*.

I can dump stuff to floppy...if it fits

I'd have to add a slave drive and back up to that. Which is the best way to save off whatever I can, really.
