Like how each scene fleshed out the backstory with a minimum of exposition--you moved right into the moment and let the reader figure out the past. Well done!

Thanks! I wasn't sure that the lack of exposition would work - that you'd get the emotional feel of the story - so it makes me VERY happy to hear you say that it did. :D

What a perfectly-constructed story! It was like the most well-crafted jewelry box with little compartments and nooks.

Okay you made me cry but gave me a hopeful ending so I forgive you. Also you did a geart job in evoking these feelings within a short framework. It's easy to do with 20,000 words but harder with 2000 and you did a great job with it.
