Camdeboo Nights update

Yayness! My agent has agreed to represent Camdeboo Nights. The proviso is that I need to make less of the South Africanisms and I'm thinking of converting the MS into Americanese, because you know, those poor Americans just can't read and write proper UK English. . . *ducks before she gets slapped*

Kinda bummed that they want you to Americanize it though...I mean it is fucking set in South Africa...

I think they just want to tone down on the colloquialisms but I'll see how it goes. I'm entering into dialogue to see how far I should push it. I'm either or, since with my editing job I need to be au fait with both Americanese and "proper" English. ;-)

Americans do tend to be provincial. They can get confused by foreign words like "prawn".

Would your editor accept South Africanisms with footnotes in American, or would that just look too academic?

It's a case of toning down words like "terrain" instead of "veld" and that sort of stuff.
