Wrapping the week

So, apparently recessions bring out the creativity in us all. According to this article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, fiction writing, particularly within the confines of a writing group, soars when the economy tanks. Who knew? Not surprised about fiction writing going up. Many people want a creative outlet as a way to de-stress (de-stressing = increased candy sales, too?), and a subset of those think writing will provide them an alternative to a traditional career, allowing them to bypass the shortage of jobs going on. I work for a university and it's pretty common to see more people going back to school when the economy's down as well, figuring it'll help their ability to secure a job when they graduate and the market is hopefully better.
