Kickin' Off the New Year

Jan 08, 2007 10:18

Happy New Year to all, and I hope everyone had fun over the holidays. I realize I'm a bit late with my wishes, but I contracted some sort of holiday plague while visiting my family, which was then made worse by my plane flights back west, and so only now have I felt cheery enough to extend well wishes. Or, you know, not cough and hack all over my ( Read more... )

Yes, books! I got them for Christmas: "Run for Cover: The Art of Derek Riggs," "The Secret History of Paris" and a gorgeous illustrated screenplay for "The Fountain," an astonishing movie that was in and out of the theaters way too quickly.

I hope you're over your cold and feeling better now.

I loved "The Fountain." Definitely came and went too quickly. Not your typical American film, and I suspect audiences didn't know quite what to make of it, but I thought it was amazing.

I'm glad you're feeling better, Nephele! Weren't you sick around this time last year, too? Or was that someone else?

My husband declared "no books!" for my birthday/Christmas until he saw the wish list I've been compiling for six months of buying few books. Then he went hog-wild. :) Included in that pile are Deidre's second book and Venus Envy by Shannon McKelden.

I saw that Spying in High Heels got optioned for film! Congratulations!

Yes, I suspect I was probably sick this time of year last year as well. It's always either for Christmas or my birthday (which is in a few weeks), due to the time of year and the fact I'm generally traveling between climates on germ-filled planes.

We're very excited about Spying, though we didn't actually sell that book so we can't take credit. Still, it's wonderful for Gemma, and a great push for her career in general. The book's actually in development with Fox for a television series, so fingers crossed that something comes of it.

Have you tried Airborne? It seems to actually live up to its hype most of the time.

Doh! I knew I should have looked up the reference before I said "film." Dang memory. :( Anyway, she's a TKA client so her success is good for the agency, right? It's exciting--I hope it works out!

Thanks, Cathy. But your poor son! I remember having scarlet fever for my sixth birthday, and I was miserable. I'm glad he's feeling better. Kids shouldn't be allowed to get sick on the holidays, it's so unfair.

I envy your husband's speedy reading time. If I could read faster, I'd get so much more done. Alas, I'll just continue to plod along and hope practice makes for improvement.

Oh, you got Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner. That was on my wish list but I didn't get it. I've got it on order from Amazon right now.

Hope you feel better!
