The thing is, reasonable limits has been the most common left position for pretty much my whole life. They;ll have to revoke my card to if it's not. The Right has been claiming the Left's position is to take everyone's guns, but that's not so. It's a strawman at worst and a taking of the fringe for the center at best

I'm totally cool with anything that fires one shot at a time. Beyond that, not so much. Because until we change the culture ~ and I have no clue how we will go about doing that ~ we need to control the tool.
I was having exactly this conversation with my parents yesterday morning. I agree with you 100%. I told them about a different convo I'd had with a friend in England (where they have very few guns compared to the US) and she said they just have tons more knife violence/murders. Outlaw all the knives then? Baseball bats? 2 x 4's?
Also, there's a huge fucking difference between arms (whether for hunting, protection, whatnot) and assault and/or high powered weapons. There's only one thing alone those are made for, and that's the mass murder of people.
"Stricter gun control laws will help and it needs to happen but it's not the overall solution."
Absolutely agreed. The issue is complex. Better gun control laws are one part of a larger solution, including asking how people get so desperate as to want to commit mass crimes.
We live in a culture of fear with a lot of desperate people who can get a hold of deadly weapons way too easily. ALL of those points have to be addressed for this to stop.

And by the way Tenn., I'm gonna need you NOT to pass anymore laws making it legal to carry firearms into bars.
Because guns and alcohol/drunks is such a smart combination!
