Not to mention a family like the Obamas that's in the center of the spotlight and hasn't had the kind of issues that say, the Bush Family did with *their* children. Or for that matter between the President and his wife. Obama, in fact, may be the first President since Reagan not to have any scandals involving extramarital affairs or his kids doing dumb things and becoming tabloid fodder for their pains. If he were white he'd be heralded as a sterling example of family values for it by the national media, but as he's black it doesn't seem to rate anywhere where it should. >.<

This is more irritating in the light of the contrast between the President and his wife v. all the various sordid scandals of the last few years in Congress, the CIA, and what have you. Then again it's hardly a secret that 'family values' matters on a skin-color basis as opposed to a 'consistent' one. >.<

I second your comment on the same reasons why I LOVE Obama and his family, more than the previous family of Presidents.

You know, honestly, I think that this is a sign of what I really like about Barack Obama the man: he's a devoted, loving father and husband. People who bash that.....sometimes there are no words for such people. This would be one of those times. And naturally those fauxminists would not be around if a white man bashes black girls, they, after all, aren't women in the eyes of a certain variety of white feminist. >.<

It's also interesting to compare that silence to Limbaugh's little stunt with Chelsea Clinton, when there was a furious reaction as opposed to the silence here.

Oh, FFS. It was one of several characteristics he mentioned, and not even the first one.

And they *are* beautiful.

Bad net, no eating my comment!

She could have had a point - the point of how society in general praises the looks of women and girls but other attributes of boys and men.

This is the point. I have made it. I made it without having to mention the Obamas AT ALL (and, if she were that desperate for an example, it's not like there aren't a gazillion out there). Instead she did and in doing so disregards the way that white-centric beauty standards hurt Black women and girls and how Black women and girls are frequently considered "ugly" or "unwomanly".

I think this requires a metaphor. The point is a cake. A little cake. Like a bun or American muffin. And then she dumps a whole truck loads of manure on it then serves it up for eating

Things we learned today, apparently it is inappropriate for a black father to call his two daughters beautiful.

Oh for fuck's sake. They are beautiful; anyone with eyes can see that. I guess I'm being misogynistic for pointing that out... oh well.
