You'd think that having a full "house" tonight would keep him plenty occupied, especially since the stand was LOUD; the chattering of the customers and the clanging and bubbling and sizzling from behind the counter made an enormous racket. Despite the rush and the noise, it was like Naruto had a radar for customers - and hell, friends ( ... )

Shikamaru found a free gap between patrons at the counter and leaned up against it, cradling his face in his hands while he waited. Despite what he said, he really wasn't in a hurry. There was something about this place that made him like it almost as much as being at home, plus it was warm in here he wasn't looking forward to continuing the walk home out in the brisk autumn evening.

Shikamaru blinked in surprise as a finger came forward to prod him in the forehead. That was unexpected. People didn't usually tell him he was wrong when he made those kinds of self-deprecating statements. Hell, usually Yosuke just joined right in with his cynicism. It was just a lousy gofer job, after all.

Somehow, though, it was impossible to argue with Naruto. He opened his mouth to say something to the effect of, "But it's just coffee, and it's just ramen," but he didn't get a syllable out before deciding against it. Because the look in Naruto's eyes was just so damn earnest. He couldn't seriously snap at him and crush that spark of energy.

"Idiot," he mumbled instead, a more neutral response at least, accompanied by a good-natured roll of his shoulders. "Don't get distracted with talking to me. Aren't you supposed to be getting my order ready?"
