He was confident though. Just like he'd told Yosuke, they could suspect him all they wanted... In the end, there was no proof that could hold him. Circumstantial evidence never won a trial alone. He just needed to keep on living as if he'd never killed the man who had replaced his father as Chief of Police.
So when he finished his coffee and exited the break room to find Light waiting for him, he paused and said casually, "Hey, what's up, Light?"

But, well, Shikamaru was a smart kid. Maybe a bit too smart. It wouldn't hurt to find out what he knew. So when Light suggested the interrogation Adachi happily went along with it, and here he came down the hall, a bright smile on his face and his arms loaded with paperwork.
"Oh, hey, guys!" he said cheerfully.

Adachi arrived just as Light had been preparing to begin delivering the explanation to Shika he'd mentally rehearsed while waiting in the hallway. Light turned to his partner with that same small, polite smile and greeted him with a nod - "Hey, Adachi." He then turned his attention back to Shikamaru, shifting the file to his other hand.
"Shikamaru, glad we caught you here. We actually came across something relevant to the investigation into your father's disappearance and we were hoping you might have some insight that could help us out." Light gestured for Shikamaru to walk with him down the hallway, toward the interview rooms.

He didn't let his suspicion show, which was easy with a face that never expressed much beyond sleepiness. Shikamaru nodded twice, once to Tohru in greeting and again to Light in agreement. Light was bringing in backup too? Along with leading him in with a lie? Maybe they actually had something.
"Guessing you guys haven't found him though, huh," he murmured with disappointment, starting to walk where he'd been directed.
