Summary: Shika's coming over to assess Itachi's character. Itachi does some assessing of his own.

The dream stayed with him all day. He should have been focused on what he planned to do when he arrived, but instead he was turning the conversation around in his mind over and over. In so many ways that dream had been nonsensical, but the advice was solid. Consider that you may become greater for the sake of your friends! His subconscious was talking to him or something. It was a good thing to keep in mind, though, when things got tough. For Yosuke and Hidan and Deidara, for his father too, he'd keep going even when he felt like giving up.
And he kind of did feel like giving up lately. With the military scaled back and life returning to normal, Shikamaru was really tempted to pretend he was normal too. Why train when there wasn't anyone to fight anymore? He was still in pain and that made his chakra even more impossible to control. He could control his shadow but he didn't get how to make that useful. It was all really frustrating.
He was still brooding about all of it after he was off the train and making his way up to Itachi's house. He didn't think much about the fact that he was going over to a mafia boss's house until he was there and he saw it. "Whoa," he breathed as he looked up at the manor, impressive and imposing. His hand hesitated when it came time to ring the bell, but Yosuke was expecting him, so... he rang.
