So for those of you who don't know, I've been applying to grad schools like crazy... I applied to 7 different schools!  I'm starting to hear back from them, and have been asked to fly out to UBC and Simon Fraser for recruitment weekends/campus visits... at their expense!!! So you know how every semester they say "so many scholarships go unclaimed, apply for them! Claim the free money"?  Maybe if the requirements weren't so weird, people would apply.  I'm not kidding you, I saw one today for Canadian citizens of Japanese and Mennonite heritage who are currently attending university full-time and majoring in psychology ( Read more... )

Last night I peed in a bush in Wascana Park.  I felt like a rebel.  I blame the Wascana Centre Authority for having all of the bathrooms locked at 9:30.  Just thought you all needed to know that.

Today I rode my bike to school and then all over the city to do some errands.  I learned a few things:

  Riding my bike everywhere makes me feel ridiculously good about myself
• 
  Seats with springs are great, as are baskets for the front of your bike
• 
  Squeaky springs under the seat make me feel about 300 pounds heavier
•

I went to pick up my bike today, which is an old one of my mom's that she bought in 1979.  It's from the late 1930s or early 1940s, or so she was told when she bought it.  It's a one speed with coaster brakes, and is beautiful just for its simplicity.  No bells and whistles, just pure, well built fun.  It probably needs new wheels and tires, but it ( Read more... )

So I was all excited about the $500 bike I posted about last night.  But today my sister was talking to my dad, and he said that there might be an old bike in my Grandma's basement (otherwise known as the pit of treasures... full of wonderful old stuff!).  So Colleen and I trucked over there after work, and there it was in its glory!
