Farmer's market day! And that, in turn, means it's time for me to tally up what I have in the fridge, what I used up, what I've foolishly bought more of, etc.

Just use the scratchy side of a sponge (or a scratchy thing, not an SOS pad though...) and regular dishsoap, and that should help your lemons be clean. I do that before a recipe that calls for lemon zest. And, I bet if you're peeling the outside skin of the lemon with a little peeler, you'll catch the flavorful stuff anyway. :)

That is very good thinking! I believe I will try that. ^_^ And here I was trying to think of a way to apply heat in a controlled manner to melt the wax layer off.

OTOH, your comment has denied the interwub community an overwrought blog post about how some dizzy dame in Maryland burned down her kitchen trying to make lemony booze. No matter. I'm sure I'll burn down my kitchen in some other creative way one of these days. XD

Ha! Well, keep a fire extinguisher handy. :) (That was one of the first things that Trevor bought for me... Sigh.)

I use the dishsoap method for cucumbers and other waxy stuff too. But I bet you get delicious ones of those at your farmers market. :( We get cactuses.
