Thursday means...

Farmer's market day! And that, in turn, means it's time for me to tally up what I have in the fridge, what I used up, what I've foolishly bought more of, etc.

SACRIFICED TO THE GOD OF NEGLIGENCE
* Swiss Chard. I was right to be afraid. Now it haunts my dreams.
* Dill. It would've been FINE if the chard hadn't crept out of its bag in the middle of the night to invade it. But it did. So now they're both binned. I really should buy a kitchen composter to use all of that rich organic garbage in my balcony garden next spring.

PURCHASED TODAY @ THE FARMER'S MARKET
* Blackberries. I must've been REALLY determined last time, because the sorbet I made was frickin' spectacular. If I do say so myself. Which... I do! ^_^ I still have plenty left, though, so instead of sorbet, I might make these into a cobbler or tarts. Ooh, with custard!
* Onions . I finally used up the last of mine, so I bought more.
* Red potatoes.
* Green onions.

Oh mah gah. This past week, I used up a lot of my onions and potatoes in making Japanese curry. Lookit!

Oh, picture, you are making me hungry. It was so easy, but fun! This first batch just had beef and onions (and maybe garlic? I forget...), but the one we made last night included potatoes and diced Fuji apple as well. Mmm, mmm, mmm! We piled it up next to a giant scoop of steamed rice. I can't wait to eat it in autumn and winter.

WISH I COULD FIND...
* Rhubarb. Summer is leaving, not starting, so I can't seem to find any. Boo.
* Lemons. Specifically, fresh organic ones that are NOT waxed and shiny like at de sto'. I really want to try making liqueur, particularly this lovely-sounding recipe for limoncello. Problem is, the whole point of soaking the peels in vodka is kind of destroyed when you, like... have a coating of wax on there keeping the @$#$%ing flavor in! Rrargh! Perhaps I can scrub 'em up good. ^_^
