In Between - Prologue

Summary: After watching his friends split up in a rather violent and sudden manner, Akanishi Jin sets out to glue and mend the four of them back together.
Prologue
“Ryo-chan!”
“What?”
“It’s not fair! How come you always get to be the dragon?”
The smaller boy huffed smugly, “obviously because I make a better dragon than any of you. Besides, I won janken so you’re stuck as the princess.”
A pout, “But I’m always the princess!”
Pi laughed, “That’s because Kame-chan’s the youngest.”
“Dibs on being the prince!”
“Eh!? If Ryo-chan’s the dragon, Kame-chan’s the princess and you’re the prince…then what does that make me?”
He looked up in thought, Ryo shrugged, “his trusty steed?”
Yamapi shook his head disdainfully, “no way! I don’t want to be a horse!”
He continued staring at the sky for ideas, and then he thought of something.
But Kame beat him to it, “what about the king?”
“…what does the king do?”
The youngest boy blinked, “Well…he’s the princess’s father, so he took care of her before she gets kidnapped…then he gets the prince to go save her…and then afterwards, he holds a feast for them.”
The other’s eyes lit up excitedly, “A feast?”
Ryo nodded excitedly, “yea, a huge feast, it’ll be lunch and we’ll all sit around and stuff our faces in a noble manner.”
He raised a brow, “but Ryo-chan…I have to defeat you, doesn’t that mean you won’t be at the feast…feasting with us?”
The shorter boy paused, “That’s okay, I can take up two roles, I’ll be the dragon and…a nobleperson who feasts with you guys.”
Pi grinned, “Alright, so I’m the king, Jin’s the prince, Kame-chan’s the princess and Ryo-chan is the big bad dragon and a nobleperson who gets to eat with us. So we’re all set, right? Let’s start! Once upon a time there was a princess by the name of Kame-chan.”
“I still don’t get why I’m the princess…”
Ryo looked over, “shhh, the king’s talking.”
“Why are you here? You’re supposed to be hiding in your den or something.”
A sheepish grin, “I’m the nobleperson right now, listening to King Yamapi talk.”
He laughed, “Ryo-chan switches roles so naturally, it’s amazing.”

Ryo let out an unenthusiastic “Gao…”
Kame replied with a rather sarcastic “Oh no, save me from this ferocious dragon.”
He raced across the playground, “Don’t worry Kame-chan, I’ll save you!”
Upon seeing his enemy, he stood up and let out a louder “Gao!”
“Watch me slay you, evil dragon!”
Unexpectedly, he was tackled by the shorter boy onto the ground where they began wrestling. “Gao!” Their wrestling soon turned into a tickling fight and in the end, the two ended up lying on the ground, breathless.
He stood up and pumped his fists in the air victoriously, “Ha! I have defeated the evil dragon! Here Kame-chan, take my hand and we’ll go back to King Yamapi to feast!” And so, the two made their way around the park holding hands and giggling over stupid jokes and anecdotes as they headed towards the ‘castle’ which was actually home, where lunch was.
Pi looked down at the panting boy on the ground, “Ryo-chan, are you alright?”
Ryo nodded and grinned. He accepted the hand offered to him and was pulled up. When the two caught up to the other pair, the shorter boy randomly hopped onto his friend’s back and shouted, “piggyback race to Pi’s house!”
And the two took off.
Kame frowned as he climbed onto the taller boy’s back, “That’s not fair! They got a head start! Jin, we have to catch up!”
He grinned, “Hold on tight, we’re going to go super speed!”
They younger boy wrapped his arms around his neck, careful to stay clear of his collarbone and laughed as they took off, “Go Jin! Run faster! We’re catching up!”
Up ahead, they could hear the other two who had reduced their pace to a moderate jog, “Ryo-chan, you started this just ‘cause you don’t want to walk all the way back, didn’t you?”
“That’s not true-look, Pi! They’re catching up! Run!”

Their feast consisted of onigiri and store bought snacks. And when they finished feasting, they were lying on the grass outside, under the sun. Ryo had fallen asleep; Kame was beginning to doze off. He felt his own eyelids grow heavy as he watched the clouds pass by.
Lying a bit away, he could hear Pi mutter sleepily, “And the four of us lived together, happily ever after. The end.”

He looked around the room with a frown.
What happened to us?

A/N: Second new fic! This isn't as dark, but it's a bit not as happy as Of Puppies and Love. By now, you might've realized that my brain's died and that I can't write summaries to obtain world peace. And damn Jin's song for being so disturbing yet to catchy! XD Can't wait to get the CD. Anyways, I'm tired. Enjoy!
