Chapter 1//
Chapter 2 Chapter 3:
After walking around in circles for a bit, pondering life in general, he ran a hand through his hair with a frown.
On one hand, Pi liked Ryo, and as their best friend, he wanted to do everything he could to support them.
On the other hand, Kame liked Pi and he promised to get him a date in order to keep the pup. And at the same time, the younger boy had become quite a good friend to him so he wanted to support him too.
On the third hand, there was the possibility of Ryo unconsciously liking Pi back, if that were the case, Kame would be up against Ryo and that’d be awkward and not very pretty. It’d probably be filled with explicit stuff…violence, and strong language. Pg-13 stuff.
And then there was him…
Ruffling his hair, he gave a yell, “what am I supposed to do now!?”
For some reason, he kept expecting to hear some mysterious, omnipotent voice, explaining to him why his life was so messed up at the moment.
But in the end, all he heard was silence.
-------------------------
He decided that he was going to be discreet about it. So as they walked their dogs, he brought the topic inconspicuously. “Hey Kamenashi, what do you like about Pi anyways?”
“Why do I like Yamashita-senpai…?” The younger boy looked up contemplatively, “well…he’s perfect isn’t he? He’s athletic, popular, good-looking…and really nice. What isn’t there to like about him?”
Jin nodded in agreement, feeling more than proud that he was the best friend of such an amazing person. Then he remembered his mission and tried his best to come up with his friend’s faults, “actually, you’d be surprised, he’s got pretty annoying habits. I mean, he never locks the bathroom door behind him and he wears really loose pants sometimes…”
Kame shrugged, “Been there, done that, I have three brothers, remember? One of which you’ve already freaked out. But still, the good outweigh the bad, don’t they?” He gave a happy sigh, momentarily lost in his thoughts, “Yamashita-senpai’s so cool…”
Unable to argue against that, he sighed and nodded dejectedly. He looked away and kicked a rock by his foot, “Yea, I suppose.”
The younger boy looked over at him, “Why’d you bring it up?”
“BecausePilikesRyochan,” he muttered darkly.
“What? I completely missed that.”
He shook his head, “Just curious.”
Sighing, he found that he didn’t have the heart to tell the other the truth.
-------------------------
“Well I guess I should get going to Pi’s now, I’ll see you later.”
Kame nodded, “I better get going too, Tat-chan’s coming over, we’ll be going to the gym and then I’m going to make him help me on my English.”
Jin blinked, “Tat-chan?”
“Yea, Ueda Tatsuya, you know him?”
His mind blanked out into panic mode, “What!? The Ueda Tatsuya!? Ryo-chan’s arch nemesis!? The one Ryo-chan trips in the hallways and hides all those Gackt posters from!? The one that threw the pudding at Ryo-chan last year and started the food fight!? That Ueda Tatsuya!?”
The younger man smiled, “Yep, that’s the one and only Tat-chan.”
And suddenly, the mental fight scene in his mind got a lot uglier. It took a leap from pg-13 to nc-17. With his mind preoccupied with panicking and such, he didn’t notice where his next step was and tripped over his dogs’ leashes.
Somewhere near him, he could hear the other calling “Jin-whoa!”
-------------------------
There was a moment of silence.
Wincing a bit, he opened his eyes and stared at the other, the only thing he could think of was “…huh? Since when did you call me Jin?”
The younger boy raised a brow, “Since Akanishi-senpai is too long to call out on short notice? Do you not like it or something?”
“Oh…no! It’s not that, all my friends call me Jin, it’s just, I don’t know…you can call me Jin if you’d like, I mean you’re my friend and all that and it’s not like it’s weird or anything, actually, I kind of like being called Jin,” he paused in his rambling to examine his fall, “…oh look…I fell on you?”
Kame nodded from under him, “that would explain why I’m on the ground, underneath you and all that.”
“Sorry, I’ll get off you now…” he got up. Or he tried to. Unfortunately, with all the leashes tangled around his legs, he failed and fell on top of the other again. He gave an embarrassed laugh, “this is…awkward…somehow, this reminds me of that medieval torture stuff, you know, where they put boulders on top of a guy until he squeals or dies.”
“Are you saying that you’re as heavy as a boulder and if I stay down here for too long, I’m going to get crushed by you?”
“Maybe, or maybe I was implying that you’re so tiny, you’d get crushed by a relatively light boulder-ish person such as myself.”
“Well even if that was the case, I’d rather not die yet so how about we untangle the leashes before I die?”
He nodded, “I think that’d be a good idea.”
The two began kicking around, trying to free their legs of the leashes while their dogs surrounded them, avoiding their legs to the best of their abilities. There was a sharp bark, causing the younger boy to jolt up, “oh my god Ran-chan, I’m so sorry!”
As he sat up, he came into contact with the elder’s collarbone. Jin gave a shriek and tried to get away which resulted in the two rolling over. Becoming more tangled, he looked at their new position and nearly dropped dead right there and then.
With their faces barely an inch apart, he found the leashes wound tightly around their legs. The younger boy wiggled around a bit, not noticing the other’s flushed face or their proximity, “what now? We’re actually stuck…”
Jin didn’t answer; he could barely hear the other with his heart pounding loudly in his ears.
“…maybe we should roll home…”
He remained silent.
“…it looks like it’s going to rain soon…”
No reply.
“…Jin?”
Silence.
“Akanishi-senpai-holy crap a car’s coming!”
A car passed by, nearly running them over. It stopped a bit away and the door opened.
“…Kame?”
The younger boy tilted his head up to the best of his ability, “Huh?”
“…what are you doing?”
“We can’t untangle the leashes around our legs, mind helping us out?”
“You guys are so weird,” the new comer complained but walked over and began fiddling around with the leashes, “this is awkward.”
There was the sound of clips being undone, and a moment later, the two had dogs licking at their faces. Snapping out of his daze, he laughed, “Stop it Ten.”
Suddenly, he felt the leashes being loosened and pulled away.
“There, untangled,” the other gave brushed his hands off on his pants and grinned in an accomplished manner at the leashes lying harmlessly on the ground, “how’d you two get stuck in something like that anyway?”
“Making a long story short, basically,” Jin lifted himself off the younger man and stood up, trying to stop his face from reddening too much, he leaned down and began hooking up his dogs, “leashes…are evil. Thanks…” his words died when he saw who it was that saved them.
Ueda Tatsuya.
Kame smiled as he was helped up, “thanks Tat-chan.”
And suddenly, a new voice joined in, “Jin? Shouldn’t you be Pi’s by now? He kept calling and complaining to me…”
He whirled around and tried to cover the other’s view with flailing arms while squawking loudly, “Ryo-chan! I didn’t expect to see you here! You’re right, let’s get going!”
But it was too late, the shorter boy’s eyes narrowed, “Ueda Tatsuya…”
The other mimicked the gesture, “Well, look what the short dwarf brought in, an even shorter boy…Nishikido Ryo…”
Ryo let out a sarcastic laugh, “that’s creative and nearly as intelligent as Jin’s excuses for leaving in the middle of something, fish-lips.”
And so, the two of them stood there, in between the other pair’s glaring contest, with their dogs happily nipping at each others’ ears. The tension was so thick it would’ve snapped a butter knife.
Laughing loudly, he began ushering his friend away while Kame did the same, “Ryo-chan, let’s not keep Pi waiting, hm? I’ll give you something to break on the way, doesn’t that sound fun?”
“Tat-chan, we’re going to the gym, right? Boxing, right? Let’s go to my place so I can grab my stuff. We can find you something to strangle at my house, how does that sound?”
The glaring two reluctantly allowed their friends to turn them around and drag them off wordlessly, the atmosphere around them thick and unwelcoming.
-------------------------
When they arrived at Yamapi’s, the younger boy took a look at his angry friend and frowned, “You guys ran into Ueda?”
“How’d you guess?”
Ryo glared at his feet.
Jin looked at one friend to the other, “Should we go with Routine A or D?”
Pausing for a moment, the younger boy decided with a definite nod, “D, definitely D.”
“Good call.”
Pi smiled, “well dinner’s ready already so we’ll eat first, and then we'll put on a happy movie with a dramatic twist and a sad ending to let him cry it off.”
He nodded, “sounds like a plan to me, I’m starving.” Pulling the other along by the hand, he spoke lightly as though to a child, “come on Ryo-chan.”
Ryo merely continued sulking.
-------------------------
When the movie ended, Ryo ended up falling asleep on his lap, Pi looked over and whispered excitedly to his best friend, “Jin, guess what? I’ve got a plan!”
He lit up and turned his friend while the credits continued rolling down the screen, “what is it?”
“See, I’m going to-” The shortest boy shifted a bit, causing the two to pause and look down. After they were convinced he was still asleep, Yamapi continued, “you know the feeling you get when you’re near someone you like?”
Jin blinked, “…you mean like doki-doki?”
The other nodded excitedly, “Yea! Exactly!”
“So you’re going to make Ryo-chan all doki-doki? What’s the point?”
“I’m going to make him fall for me and realize it so when I confess he won’t go into shock or anything and then we'll live happily ever after.”
He snapped his fingers, “Oh, I get it…hey, do you find this kind of weird? I mean we’re plotting right above Ryo-chan’s head…”
Yamapi looked down and twirled a lock of hair around his fingers, “That’s fine, he’s very much like a rock in many ways. Not only is he dense like one, but he sleeps like one too.”
Jin laughed softly, “That’s true. So when are you planning on putting your plan into action?”
The excited glow returned to his eyes as he grinned, “I’m not sure, but it’ll be soon, why wait, right? I’m going to initiate phase one of Operation Ryo-chan-”
“Operation Ryo-chan’s too obvious isn’t it?”
The other’s brows furled in concentration, “…yea, I guess you’re right, what should I call it?”
He thought for a moment, “Operation Chihuahua?”
Pi blinked, “Chihuahua? Why a Chihuahua?”
“Because if Ryo-chan was a dog, he’d probably be a Chihuahua?”
His friend laughed, “I bet he would, but that’s kind of weird. How about Secret Agent Man? Remember when he used to sing that song nonstop?”
A nod, “he was pretty good at it too, but that’s too long…”
“…Operation Rock?”
The younger boy grinned but shook his head.
So the two sat there, bickering over what to name the operation.
-------------------------
In the end, it was simply 'Operation Love'.
“So when are you going to start it?”
“Probably Tuesday.”
Jin raised a brow, “you’re going to start it on Tuesday? Why not tomorrow?”
Yamapi shrugged, “Because I’m busy tomorrow, and you know what they say…‘True love will wait a lifetime’. If it can wait for a lifetime, I don’t see why it can’t wait for one day.”
“I guess so…how’d you come up with this anyways?”
“I got advice from the expert.”
He blinked, “You mean Tackey?”
His friend nodded, “the one and only. He said that he was going to help me as I go along.”
“You’re lucky you’re his favorite…”
Pi just laughed.
Takizawa Hideaki was a senior that graduated last year. He was considered the expert since he went after one of, if not the most oblivious person in the world. Imai Tsubasa.
And of course, he succeeded.
Whether it was by luck or skill as he claimed, after everything, no one was able to doubt him in anyway. And his skills, or his ‘love tactics’ as he called them, ended up a legacy at their school.
-------------------------
So on Tuesday morning, Pi opened his eyes groggily and sat up. Pulling the covers off, he managed to crawl out of bed. He dragged his feet over to the washroom where he completely missed his mouth and hit his cheek instead when he tried to brush his teeth.
After breakfast however, he began regaining his energy, hyped up about putting his plan into action. As he walked out the door and down the street, he pumped his fist into the air, “Commencing Operation Love now!”
