Pairings: Akame, Ryopi, smidge of Kamepi
Rating: PG
Summary: Akanishi Jin and Kamenashi Kazuya were average students with average lives until they meet each other. The results? An eccentric school year.

Chapter 1:

It was purely coincidental, their meeting.

It was raining hard that day and some unknown person had carelessly left their umbrella unattended. And so, being the ever so resourceful and shameless person he was, he walked over with every intention to take it and use it as his own.

Or at least that’s what he going to do until someone else grabbed the umbrella at the same time, he looked up and glared, it was one of the younger students. He’d seen him around before, Kamenashi Kazuya, baseball boy, turtle pear, two years younger.

Actually, the first time he heard of Kamenashi, he ended up asking for one at a nearby grocery store only to receive a strange look from the old lady that worked there. The day after that, he found out that it was a person rather than a fruit.

Akanishi Jin frowned, “is this your umbrella?”

The boy returned the frown before answering honestly, “no, is it yours?”

“What if it is?”

Kame raised a brow, “oh you’re a girl now, Akanishi-senpai?”

“Wha…?” he looked down at the name tag on the umbrella, which was, indeed, a girl’s name. He scoffed, “what if I know her, Kamenashi-kun?”

“Then you wouldn’t be saying ‘what if’.”

Damn…

He rolled his eyes, “well it doesn’t belong to either of us and we both want to use it so the only logical answer is…” he tugged at the umbrella, “I’m older so it’s mine.”

Kazuya tugged it back, “shouldn’t you be treating your kouhai with kindness?”

Jin tugged at it, “no. Shouldn’t you be treating your senpai with respect?”

Tug, “Well I’m not the most respectful person around.”

Tug, “Well I’m not very nice.”

Tug, “I can see that.”

Tug, “you’re just rude.”

Tug, “and you’re just mean.”

Suddenly, someone from the side cleared their throat, the two looked over and stared at the girl standing there, putting on sheepish grins, they asked, “…is this yours?”

The girl nodded and the two let go of the umbrella. Handing it over, they watched her retrieve it before leaving wordlessly. The two glared at each other, “well this is just great. Now neither of us gets to use it.”

Jin snorted, “That was entirely your fault.”

The younger boy’s eyes widened, “My fault? How was it my fault!?”

He shot the other a strange look as though the reason was obvious, “If you’d just let me take it and leave, we wouldn’t have been caught and I could be on my way home-nice and dry-right now!”

Kame returned his glare, “I could say the same for you!”

“But you didn’t so ha!” Jin replied rather smugly, leaving the other’s mouth agape.

“Mabudachi Jin! Mabudachi Jin’s new friend!” The two looked over to see Yamashita Tomohisa, bouncing over with a grin, dragging a very unwilling Nishikido Ryo along, “it’s raining!”

“Pi, I think we can all see that,” the shorter man stated dryly.

Yamapi skillfully ignored the blunt remark and walked over to Kame, Ryo still in tow, he held his free hand out with a friendly smile. Clearly, he was slightly sugar high, just slightly. “Hello Jin’s new friend, I’m Yamashita Tomohisa, but you can call me Yamapi.”

Jin was about to point out that he wasn’t his new friend but Kame shook his hand with a polite smile which he thought looked strangely out of character for the younger boy, “Kamenashi Kazuya.”

Without missing a beat, Yamapi gave a happy grin and turned around and began to leave, “Well, it was nice meeting you! Me and Ryo-chan are going to go eat ramen now! Bye bye!”

Ryo blinked as he was dragged out of the building, coming to his senses, he began to protest, “Ramen? What!? I have to go home to study!”

Pi paused and looked back and regarded the other for a moment, “What are you talking about, Ryo-chan? You never study! Wow, you almost fooled me there,” he continued making his way out into the rain.

“I do! Let me go Pi! Gah, I’m getting all wet! Why am I getting kidnapped by my kouhai!? At least let me get my umbrella!”

“Nonsense! The faster we get there, the dryer we’ll be!”

The two stood there as the other pair disappeared from sight, Jin frowned, “hey! They went for ramen without me! Oh well,” he walked over to his second best friend’s locker and opened it, “at least I have an umbrella now.”

Kame stood a bit away, turning to him, obviously interested in something…or someone, “you know Yamashita-senpai?”

He stared blankly at the other for a moment, “Yamashita-senpai…oh, you mean Pi? Yea, we’re best friends, you know, ma-bu-da-chi.” With the heat of the moment gone, he looked at his umbrella and over to his junior before sighing, “how about I walk you home?”

The other let out an intelligent, “Huh?”

Jin raised a brow, “We were fighting over an umbrella for a reason, right? I’ll walk you home, no point in getting drenched hm?”

“Oh…alright…thanks…I guess…” apparently the other had mellowed out too, suddenly not as bold as he’d been a few minutes ago.

-------------------------

And so, the two made their way out into the courtyard, then onto the street, Jin blinked, “wait, I don’t know where you live.”

“I’m glad to hear that,” he said drying and pointed to the direction where his house stood, “we go this way.”

The elder shrugged, “alright, we go this way then.”

They continued walking in silence.

-------------------------

On the way, they came across a whimpering box. They stared at each other then at the box, Kame grabbed his arm and ventured towards the box, “…hello?”

The box gave a sharp bark, causing the two to jump. Then a small head poked itself out of the box to stare at them with sad eyes.

It was a puppy.

Without thinking, Kame let go of his arm, snatched the umbrella from him and kneeled in front of the box, “you’re so cute!” Jin glared holes into his back while he stood in the pouring rain. “Look senpai, isn’t he cute?”

Any angry thoughts he had flew away when he saw the puppy that the other was holding, his frown melted into a large grin as he walked over to take a turn holding the wet pup, “he’s adorable!”

“I should take you home,” he told the puppy.

Jin looked over and tugged the pup away, “What? I want to take him home!”

Kame frowned and tried to get the dog back, “Give him back! I found him first!”

“No! I want him!”

“You can’t have him!”

“Yes I can, he likes me more!”

“No he doesn’t! You took him from me!”

“You took my umbrella, it’s a fair trade!”

“This isn’t your umbrella!”

“So? You get Ryo-chan’s umbrella and I get the puppy!”

“I don’t want the umbrella! I want the dog!”

“You were fighting for the umbrella earlier!”

“So were you!”

“My puppy!”

“You’re getting him all wet!”

He shot the other a suspicious look and held the pup against his cheek, “You’re just saying that to lure us under the umbrella where you’ll snatch him away like how you snatched my umbrella away and then you’ll take him and my umbrella home and I’ll never see them again!”

Kame paused, “Yes-but that’s not the point! And it’s not your umbrella! You’re both getting wet!”

“Because you took my umbrella!”

“It’s not even yours…” A pause, then an exasperated sigh, “Fine! You can have the dog! Ran-chan wouldn’t like him anyways, now hurry up, my house is nearby, you two can dry off there.”

Jin continued staring at him with distrust while he tried to figure out who ‘Ran-chan’ was. Maybe it was his sister, his mother…his girlfriend? He narrowed his eyes, “you’re just saying that…”

“No, you can have the dog for real.” The younger boy was gritting his teeth as he said so, “now come on before you both catch pneumonia and die.”

“Yes, another victory by Akanishi Jin!” Grinning at his victory, he followed the other down the street and into a building with a wet puppy in his hands, the two of them leaving a trail of puddles behind them as they walked towards the boy’s apartment.

Kame stepped into his apartment, took off his shoes and set the umbrella on the ground carefully. A little dog came scampering towards him, he beamed and picked it up, “Tadaima, Ran-chan,” he looked around, “Hm…looks like everyone’s out…come in, and close the door behind you, I’ll go get you towels. ”

Jin stepped in slowly, eyes wide as he looked around the clean apartment. He could hear the other boy rummaging through something as he took off his own shoes and stood there. When the other finally reappeared with towels in one arm, and his dog in the other, he was nearly frozen, “took you long enough, why don’t you just toss us into a freezer and leave us to freeze to death there? At least that’d be fast and painless!”

The younger boy set his dog down who ran over to him and began sniffing at his feet, “I’ll dry the pup off in the kitchen, here” he threw a towel at his face, “go dry off in the bathroom, I left clothes in there for you. They’re my brother’s so they should fit, seeing how fat you are.”

“I’m not fat! First Ryo-chan and now you too!? Everyone’s against me,” he whined, handing the pup over as he dragged his feet towards the direction the other was pointing in, towel hanging off his head.

“Don’t drag your feet, you’re getting the place all wet.”

He gave a grunt and closed the bathroom door behind him.

-------------------------

When he finished changing out of his wet clothes, he made his way back out, passing closed doors on his way to the kitchen, “Kamenashi Kazuya…” he stepped back and read the door again, there were three other names on the door but he didn’t really care, “Kazuya…Kazuya…”

He repeated the name a couple more times then made his way into the kitchen where Kame was currently giving the pup something to eat, the younger boy looked over, “I thought you drowned in the sink or got lost in the hallway.”

“No…but did you know that you could spell ‘yakuza’ from ‘Kazuya’?”

The comment earned him a blank stare from the other.

Out of habit, he began giggling out of awkwardness, he looked around for an escape, “I…forgot my clothes in the bathroom, I’ll go get them now…I won’t get lost.”

-------------------------

After he grabbed his clothes and tossed them onto his bag by the door, he made his way back to the kitchen. “Hey Kamenashi, how fast do you think wet socks can turn moldy?”

‘Kazuya’ turned around and gave him a strange stare, “…what?”

Jin frowned, “don’t look at me like that, and are you trying to make your voice sound lower?”

Then another Kazuya walked into the kitchen, Jin looked from one Kazuya to the other and felt his jaw hang loose. Kame imitated him and looked from him to the other ‘Kazuya’ and sighed, “I see you’ve already weirded nii-san out. Nii-san, this is Akanishi-senpai, he’s the same age as you. Senpai, this is my second brother Kouji.”

He managed to get his jaw back out, “nii-san…? Oh, thank god, for a sec I thought you went and split into two or something, you know, binary fission and what not.”

Kame looked over at his brother and explained, “Akanishi-senpai isn’t very bright.”

“Ah…” The elder Kamenashi gave a slow nod before turning back whatever it was that he was doing. Jin was about to protest when Kazuya handed him the pup, distracting him from any thoughts he might’ve had. There was a beeping, a pause, then the elder Kamenashi turned around and headed for the door, “I’m heading out. I’ll be back for dinner.”

“Alright, bye.”

After the door closed, Jin stopped lavishing the pup with kisses for a moment to look up, “you and your brother look freakishly similar.”

“…we’re brothers…”

“Yea well, me and my brother don’t look that alike, you guys could be twins!”

“Are you hungry?” Kame asked, completely off topic.

Completely distracted again, he nodded enthusiastically, “Yes!”

Kame sighed, “I’ll go make ramen…”

-------------------------

So he sat there with the pup asleep beside him, watching TV, as the other boy cooked. He looked down at the pup with a smile, petting it lightly, “one day, that’ll be me on TV, just you wait and see.”

Suddenly, there was a bowl in front of his face, he blinked and looked up, the other frowned, “what? You’re hungry right? Here, have some tea too.”

“Thanks…” he muttered and took the food from the younger boy.

Kame sat down beside the sleeping pup with his own bowl and looked down, “you know…I’ll only let you keep him under certain conditions.”

Jin looked over accusingly, mouth full of food, “I knew it! There are always strings attached. Fine, name them.”

“First, I get to see him whenever I want.”

“Done.”

“Second, I get to help name him.”

“Fine,” he muttered, taking a drink of his tea.

“Third…you have to get me a date with Yamashita-senpai.”

Jin spat his tea back out.
