I agree one hundred percent. I haven't even finished the book yet. And just.

Severus.

I'm so angry for him and so hurt and he had such a shitty life and this was all he was given? This was ALL? I just can't.

I've been crying for the past hour, off and on and I don't think it's going to stop any time soon.

All I can say is 1) Here's a tissue 2) You and I are sharing a brain on this one right now and 3) never doubt that Severus was loved. He was passionately, loyally, faithfully loved by one Remus John Lupin. (or one Sirius Black if you'd prefer, m'dear) So there, JKR.

I have to re-read DH (which is now loaned out to my friend) before I can totally process what we are all supposed to take away from the Dumbledore story, but my initial reaction is very similar to yours. Heartlesspuppetmaster!Dumbledore might actually be canon now? I'm very confused.

I've always adored Severus, but I love him so much now that it feels like it's burning a hole in my heart Eep. I know. This is tough, eh? Even though I thought I was prepared for it, I wasn't. Still a mess. *big hugs*

I'm ready for the fic healing to begin right now! :)

Hey, I think they both loved him, and I'm perfectly happy with a Severus-centered threesome. Hell, if anyone deserves to be loved passionately, loyaly and faithfully by two people, it's him. ;-)

I think it's time for a Severus Snape Love Fest. That poor little woobie needs some serious attention.

YES, It Is. Let the SSLF commence immediately. *cheers*
I tried a silly snupin drabble for lupin100 and I feel better already. I highly suggest writing a short, happy fic to clear the mind. ;)
If it just happens to be a Remus/Severus/Sirius threesome, well, so much the better! Hmm...

Just commenting here, because I cheered myself up immensely today by reading the not-very-recent stories Under The Influence (PWP, rather) and Stone Cold Sober. The former is Snape/Black/Lupin (which is why I thought to comment), the latter follows immediately on and is more Snack-oriented, with some other pairings in there too. Both awesome stories by Fabula Rasa :).

Oh, you nailed it!
I was sobbing like a baby during the "Prince's" chapter.
Severus was treated far worse than any other character. Used over and over again, having his desperate desire for affection, love, respect turned against him...My throat cloggs every time I think of of him as a boy; dirty, unloved and still so desperate for someone to put him first.
And his death? Lonely and unmourned, his sacrifices utterly unrecognized.
...And EVERY SINGLE SLYTHERIN is evil? WTF? Not a single one stands on the side of the light? How I waiting to see the Slytherin students stand up and fight! But no they, as one, slink off out the door.
Criminy, at least Crabbe and Goyle stood for SOMETHING!
A good read though it was, JK dealt with our man in an intensely insatisfying way.
Of course this means it's up to us fan writer to put things right!

I guess Snape was supposed to stand for all Slytherins in his dedication to the side of the Light.

I'm glad Harry had grown enough by the last chapter to recognize what Snape did, and I am so glad he told everyone about Snape's loyalty and sacrifice where *everyone* could hear it.

And even tho I thought the epilogue was weak, "Albus Severus" and "one of the bravest men I ever knew" totally undid me. Thank you, Harry. Dumbledore was right -- you are a better guy than him.

I've got lots of respect for JKR, but if she says in an interview that no, Snape really is dead, I'll just bury my head in the sand like an ostrich and/or walk out in a huff, asking far and loud who the hell she thinks she is, killing OUR characters like that.

Oh, like Snape couldn't fool JKR. ;-)

I've never liked Dumbledore, so I was glad for this twist of characterization. I thought it made him more interesting, more complex, and, in a way, more human. He's a bastard, all right, but at least he is, a little bit, a bastard who knows he is a bastard, and tries not to cause too much harm that way.

I thought what we saw of Snape and Dumbledore's relationship in the Pensieve was very interesting too. Dumbledore's coldness and harshness at the beginning (because Snape reminds him of him, like Tom did, like all Slytherins do, no doubt), then the rather mellow bickering at the end. There's a wealth of characterization there.

Does that make you feel better? I can't believe I'm taking Dumbledore's defence, he's one of the character I like least, but I thought the revelations about him in DH were really brillant.

Oh, I loved the revelations about his past and family. It's wonderfully rich canon, and it not only supports a lot of current fan fic, but is excellent fodder for more.

Yes, obviously their relationship mellows over time, and now that I've calmed down a bit, Albus seems to *almost* regard Severus with some affection in HBP. It's just... if Albus really did care for Snape, I wish he would have said it more plainly. Even a "take care of yourself, please". But no, it just all seemed to be about the mission and Albus. Sigh.

Don't get me wrong; I *want* there to be affection there. I want to think Albus did grow to love and care for Snape over the years. DH didn't really give me that, tho. I'll happily accept any evidence that he did, tho.
