Can I say that I like this journal entry?

Sometimes, I'm afraid to say I like something. Not all somethings, mind you; I'm comfortable saying that dahlias are lovely flowers and that I get a visceral thrill from thunderstorms. I know people look at me strangely for it, but I'm not afraid to say I enjoy chewing on lemons and I find peace in the sensation of getting tattooed. I don't even ( Read more... )

Just... attempt doing what you can to try and make the world a better place, for your peers, for your elders, and definitely for the generations that follow you. We need to see an uptick in empathy in this world, and we stand the best chance at that in leading the young by example.

You're absolutely right :)

Agreed! My hub and a friend were just talking about this in terms of investment accounts that grow large from being involved with large corps. But how else can we afford to save n pay for our future if we can’t get investment money to grow even tho we disagree a lot with big pharmaceutical and other mega corps. All we can do is live our daily lives by following the practices we do believe in as best we can.

I can see how that would be a moral quandary. My issues with pharmaceutical companies are much more direct: I don't want to line the pockets of the people who jack up the prices of drugs purely for profit, but also? I need my meds. I'm not sacrificing my health over my morality, because what good can I create in the world if I'm not in it anymore?

It's really hard to like something in good conscience in this world we live in. I recently had this exact epiphany while reading some lyrics to a band I really like. I might not agree with the thoughts in that particular song, but I'll be damned if I don't continue to rock out to their other jams!

I have a very starkly outlines experience with this. I first heart Florence + the Machine when a friend linked me a song right after I left my first husband. He was extremely abusive, and this song spoke to everything I felt as a victim of that abuse, and I instantly bonded with the band. Unfortunately, they also produced "Kiss with a Fist." I mean, come on now. But it's a holdover from an old band, it doesn't fit in with the other music... I made a lot of excuses before realizing I just had to allow myself to disengage from it while still finding joy in the rest.
