I love this. There are a few people whose work is hard for me to enjoy anymore, but I don't fault other people for enjoying their art, music, or movies. And certainly, depending on the offense I do believe people sometimes do jst make a mistake, and learn from that mistake. And I don't think we should shun them for that. We should try to show them a better way. Anyway, that's all just to say, I agree with you.

I agree that we should consume critically. I mean, of course, that we should be allowed to enjoy things while also being aware that they're not perfect representations, and that in some cases they can uphold and support dangerous ideas. But I also think that criticism is valid for things that do more harm than good. And in some cases, yes, consuming media critically has completely erased my desire to see things from that particular director or actor. But the again, I'm so immensely tired of the "all latinos are Mexican bullshit," but I'll still watch the new Party of Five. It's just a matter what wins out on what particular day. Whether my desire to see representation of some sort is greater than my desire to see a specific type of representation.
