The woods around them were silent except for the sound of the two wolves breathing. Their howls of pleasure chased all but the bravest creatures far away and those precious few certainly weren't going to make their presence known for fear of ending up the way the deer had

He grunted at the heavy weight of her head on his belly, a leg kicking absently. After a moment, he shifted and rolled toward her, forcing her to lift her head again.

Growling sleepily, he pawed at her. Lass? What's wrong?

She didn't move except to take a deep breath, nor did she open her eyes. Aye, some food. She was enjoying the languid feeling too much to contemplate running yet. Pull that deer over for me, love?

He chuffed loudly, then found his feet and went for the deer. If any of the Pack saw this, he'd be teased. But since it was just the two of them there wasn't any harm in it.

He pulled it back over to her, then flopped down over her.

She whined softly at the sound of him moving the deer around. When it was in front of her, she inhaled deeply, drinking in the scent of real meat. Have I said well enough how I love ye?

She opened her eyes to pick her first bite of the deer, then snapped them shut again. She shook hard. About twenty yards away were two silvery forms. Ye weren't loud enough.*

He wasn't really paying attention, content to be laying on her. When she touched his mind, he came instantly alert. His fur stood on end, adding to his bulk, as he looked around.

She whined, flattening herself under him as much in reaction to him as the ghosts. She looked again, saw a third form and shuddered. *Across the way, by the big pine. Three of them.* She opened her eyes for just a second. Two wolves and a man.*
