(my wedding vows came from Vonnegut)

(i saw him lecture in person. i love him so so so much and i went with a friend from out of town to see him. while we were there, she looked across the gym [it was held in a basketball gym] and said "oh, a guy i work with is here." i said "is he cute?" she said "nah, he's just Flanner" and we didn't go say hi and i forgot about everything but how wonderful kv was. six months later i moved to a different town, the one where my friend lived. five years later, and five years ago tomorrow, i got married to "just Flanner")

You... You... YOU SAW HIM LECTURE?

(Someone hold me because I'm totally not about to weep).

Seeing him would pretty much be my ultimate dream--which sucks because he died and, well, yeah. So wow, that is amazing. What did he talk on?

Also you saw Mr Flanner for the first time at a Vonnegut lecture? AND THEN YOUR WEDDING VOWS-? Ugh, your life is awesome and romantic. I jelly.

(Which novel was it?)

Also happy anniversary! That's wonderful, congratulations (I don't know what one says on an anniversary- Keep up the good work? Hope you have many more? (See those all sound like things I would say to someone who's just had a child XD) Good job not screwing it up?)

Yup. Saw him lecture in, oh, 2002? I didn't meet Mr. Flanner that day, just caught a glimpse across the gym. I have many, many, many romantic Mr. Flanner stories that nobody cares about, LOL.

The vows were from "Mother Night." The stuff about being a nation of two. Also, the first thing I said to my niece and my daughter was from "God Bless You Mr. Rosewater":

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and
cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the
outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here.
There's only one rule that I know of, babies-God damn it,
you've got to be kind." (and I added in a 'Namaste' for good measure for bb flanner)

Mr. Flanner has signed firsts of most of Vonnegut's work, many of which are personalized. My favorite is "To Mr. Flanner, Age 10."

kadsjlgkaj creepy Emily is creepy and wants to hear them alllllll. (Which is creepy, LOL).

Oh god that's gorgeous. And that's probably the most perfect thing to say to a child (I like the addition of 'Namaste' too :D). Bb Flanner is going to grow up to be one amazing little person. I'm rather jealous.

Also I'm REALLY jealous of Mr Flanner's personalised Vonneguts. (I have a recurring dream where I meet him, and have absolutely nothing to say to him except "THANK YOOOU" and "Ohmygod" and stuff, and I keep trying to ask my intelligent questions but nothing comes out, then he blows cigarette smoke in my face and I wake up. My brain is normal...)

I wish I knew more people who like/read/have even freaking heard of Vonnegut. I practically had to bribe my school library to start stocking even some of his books.

Alas, my life is sooooooooo tragic. XD
