[The camera flicks on. There's a bright red flower on screen. Then, as he moves the camera away, you get a shot of some boots, white socks, khaki shorts, then, eventually, his face.]

There's some brilliant flowers around here. So many different shades of red. They're quite wonderful, don't you think?

[He points the camera at another flower, this Read more... )

[And here's Victor returning from the beach at some various point during the day, because timelines are fun. He's carrying three small fish and is quite proud of himself for catching them. It was a combination of wire and string from his pockets, as well as the smaller shelled creatures he'd found on the beach.]

Edward? [Pause. Where are you hiding, Eddie? Do you not want a delicious fish?]

[Eddie, meanwhile, is still chasing after that scorpion, but hears Victor come back, so just waves his hand a little, trying not to make much noise, and says, in a David Attenborough whisper,] I'm following this creature. I want to try and spot it's barcode.

[He grins a little and waves Victor over to help, taking a step closer to the scorpion.]

I do not know what that creature is. [Victor doesn't like the look of it either. Small creatures are never good things to chase.]

What is this barcode for which you search? [It sounded like a scientific term to Victor. It might have been some particular part of the creature. Victor steps over to get a closer look at it.]

[Eddie is now squatting down and peering at the scorpion, which was doing it's best to look threatening,] There's lines and numbers on them usually. It's like... a unique code for the animal.

[He held up his left hand. There were thin black lines in his fingernail beds,] A little like those, but animals' are more obvious. And have numbers.

[He was still doing his nature documentary whisper when the scorpion scuttled towards him and was making for his boot. Eddie did scramble back a little, as he hadn't expected that, and the closer it was, the more dangerous it looked.]

A 'barcode'?

Yes, on the animals. Don't they have one where you're from?

I don't think so. I don't even know what a barcode is.

It's a series of lines and numbers which are unique to a particular animal.

I've never heard of them.

They're quite dangerous. They only require two triggers to swallow you up.

Why would it have a barcode? You normally get attacked by groceries or something?

All animals have a barcode... well, they do where I come from.

rayney_day April 17 2011, 22:04:07 UTC
Yeah, you should probably just ignore that from now on...

Why?

Surely the animals must have got their barcodes from somewhere.
