I hadn't produced any doujinshi lately - nor had I had any fun cross-hatching and generally making a mess on the paper with my beloved pencil ♥ - and so yesterday I rolled up my sleeves (literally. *LOL* you don't know the mess I reduce myself to when drawing XD;;) and went to work. I'll probably have to run from Zero once I've posted this - the man IS very saber-happy, not to mention trigger-happy, too - but this is an actual scene from the Rockman Zero 2 game, so I didn't made it up... and can't be held responsible for what happens to X, either. ç__ç

This is one of the most tragic scenes (in a series loaded with tragic scenes, mind you ¬.¬;;) concerning X. Yet, Zero shows a... remarkable... mild reaction in the game. Yeah. I firmly believe that's not because he doesn't care, but rather because of:
A) the game's nature itself, (having been developed for a portable console, some things just couldn't be done - animated reaction to all events, for starters. And other things HAD to be omitted, as to leave room for other aspects - graphic, music, battle system, speed, etc - and make the gaming experience as enjoyable as possible).
B) Zero is held back by a friggin' immobilizing field!! How could he react at all?!
Disappointed with Zero's cold reaction nonetheless, I decided I'd portay his grief the way it deserved, one day. Yesterday, I did.

Page 1 was inspired by the actual in-game images (though my rendition of Elpizo is way less handsome than the real thing. I AM biased, you know... XD;;). Page 2 was inspired by something I saw on Bastard!!, by Kazushi Hagiwara. I did NOT go and copy the scene (which was in volume 21, I think). But I DID have it firmly in mind, while I drew, so we can say it inspired me GREATLY. That particular scene came to mind for two reasons - one because X and the character from Bastard!! share the same fate. The second is that, in the sketch of X's demise available in the artbook, you get this... feeling that X is actually a statue, instead than a robot. o.O;; That was the same effect Hagiwara had put in his own scene. And that I ultimately put in the doujinshi.

Elpizo : Hee hee hee. Thank you for coming to my show. But, I'm afraid that... this is the real "retirement" of your friend. Hee hee hee! Time to die, X... And release the Dark Elf!

One of my best pieces yet... despite the heart-ache at what I was depicting, I enjoyed doing this. It was a nice exercise in cross-hatching. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to hide from Zero. *bolts*
