The latest issue of Comp Ace magazine in Japan showed previews for their two newest manga series, one based off of Gurren Lagann & another based off of Higurashi. Both stories will officially begin in the next issue of the magazine from Kadokawa Shoten.
The Gurren Lagann manga features a really interesting take on the series, as you can probably tell by the title- "Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: Gurren Gakuen-Hen" (Gurren School Edition). That's right, the story will feature the cast in an alternate reality where they all go to high school together. Kabao Kikkawa (Queen'd Blade), typically a hentai/ecchi artist, will draw the series. Sounds like a pretty interesting idea. Reminds me of an idea I had of a Yu-Gi-Oh spin-off about the Dark Magician Girl where she plays a high school student by day, but becomes a magical girl by night to fight evil. Cameos by other Yu-Gi-Oh characters & monsters are there as well. =b
The new Higurashi manga, titled "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: Kokoro-Iyashi-hen" (When They Cry - Higurashi: Heart-Healing Chapter), will be more traditional. The story will follow the character Rika in her after-school club's first summer vacation. The real interesting thing about this manga is that it'll be done by Yuna Kagesaki, the
manga-ka of Karin. Kagesaki recently started another new manga in a different magazine titled
Hekikai no AiON, so she's really keeping herself busy right now. The previous Higurashi artist is supposedly too busy working on another manga, but if Kagesaki could do two at once so should he!
