DSi XL Gets American Release Date

Mar 02, 2010 23:53

The next iteration of the Nintendo DS, the DSi XL, finally has an official North American release date! & it's this month- March 28! After already being released in Japan, getting released in Europe this week, & getting released in Australia next week, the US for a change is the LAST major location to be getting a new gaming system. Not sure why Nintendo of America have been dragging their heels on this one, but better late than never as they say.

Retail price is set at $189.99, which is $20 more than the original DSi (not bad considering it's about 20% bigger) & $60 more than the DS Lite, both of which are still on sale & have yet to be retired by Nintendo.

In conjunction with the official American announcement for the DSi XL, Dunaway has announced a new use for the handheld to make it better compete with other modern portable devices like the iPhone- you'll now be able to read ebooks on it. They'll be kicking it off with a pack of "100 Classic Books" which will be downloaded from the DSi Shop beginning June 15 for $19.99. Reading books on a handheld screen obviously would work best on the DSi XL because of how freaking large the darn thing is, but I would assume the books can be downloaded onto the normal sized DSi as well. DS Lite & DS Fat owners need not apply.
