I think D. L. Hugley would make an outstanding Doctor.

So would Oded Fehr.

I mean, if they insist on not forcing Tennant to remain in the role until he dies a few times....

So would Oded Fehr.

And if people thought *Tennant* was smokin' hot...!

I saw Mr. Joseph in Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere a couple years back, and thought his performance was one of the highlights. On the DVD commentary track, Gaiman said he either conceived the character as Doctor-like hero, or that Joseph's performance put him in mind of the Doctor.

I drifted away from Doctor Who during Tennant's second series, but I would come back to see this man in the role.

And, I am an American.

I haven't seen Neverwhere yet; so far, I've only seen Joseph playing Roderick, and there's not enough of that role for me to judge anything aside from "he's really good at playing a shallow idiot."

And, I am an American.

It's the double fail of that line that really gets my goat - let's insult an entire race AND an entire nation!

Ooooh, interesting! I wouldn't have thought of de Carabas as Doctorish per se, yet he's exactly why my instant response to the rumor was "Yes, please!" And now that I think about it, he does have a lot in common with the darker, more Trickster aspects of the Doctor.

It's been all of 24 hours since I first heard the rumor, and I'm desperately hoping it turns out that way. Even though I then won't be able to snicker at the people currently freaking on spec. *eyeroll*

Okay, my vote doesn't go to him because I still have my dilusions that I can wish Christopher back into the TARDIs....

But on a sane note, I do want a sexy doctor (got spolied by Christopher and David). Or Eddie Izzard, just cause that would be a WHOOT!

Jesus Christ.

How the fuck is this even an issue anymore?

Blade the vampire hunter - NOT a white leading character - single-handedly paved the way for Marvel's future successes in bringing its most A-list characters to movie screens.

And that was more than a DECADE ago.

So even if you limit it exclusively to GENRE, we've already long since accepted black dudes in the lead, thanks.

Comments like that horrify and amaze me, in that these ignorant idiots still think that the majority of other people agree with them. A non-white Doctor would be brilliant, I see no reason why it should be an issue. Completely ridiculous.

I do have my concerns about Paterson Joseph in particular, but just in that I question his ability to be likable, as the Doctor needs to be at least on some level, for people to follow him. The few roles I've seen him in wouldn't give the impression that he had that quality in him at all, he seems to specialize in alienating characters. But I'd really need to see a greater sample of his work to cast a firm opinion.
