Nebraska is only "Southern" if you're in the Dakotas. It's as Midwestern as you get.

Man, what the hell? What is WRONG with these people?!

At times, I wonder if conservatives are simply incapable of empathy.

I said as a joke one day, during the health care debate, that I wasn't sure if Republicans could pass the Voight-Kampff test and register as human, and after I said that, I couldn't dismiss the idea. (It's a PKD/Blade Runner reference, btw.) The Voight-Kampff test measures empathy and emotional response; inauthentic humans lack the proper empathic responses. Republicans at times, at many times, seem to me to be incapable of understanding the effect their policies, no matter how sadistic or cruel, like in this case, have upon others.

I'm sure if I think long enough, I can come up with something useful to say, but mostly I just want to kick every person involved with passing this law. Hard.

The sheer emotional trauma of the whole ordeal alone frightens me. This aren't some kind of goddamn story book idiots, it's real life and it's painful.

And lest we forget, the sort of people making laws like this are almost invariably trying to screw us at the other end of life as well. These are the same people who are trying to prevent advanced directives/turning off the respirator/letting nature take its course. Gah, why can't they worry about their own lives and quit screwing with everyone else's lives...
