Pro-Life Law Means a Short, Agonizing Life.

Mar 07, 2011 07:05

Sorry to ruin your morning, but there's a really appalling article about the consequences of mandating that Life At All Costs Is Good coming out of Nebraska this morningNebraska passed a "fetal pain" law, meaning that no abortions could be done past the time activists determine that the fetus could feel pain. There was an exception for health of ( Read more... )

They're fanatics, just as much as suicide bombers. They KNOW what's right because it's in their Book, or somebody TOLD them what was in their Book (not that they've actually read it with any attention), and any thought is completely unnecessary. The same kind of people would watch their own child die rather than get medical attention to save its life because someone told them that all they have to do is pray, and whatever happens is God's Will. But you bet your ass nearly all of them would get a doctor if they broke a leg, God's Will or not. It's only other people's lives they're willing to sacrifice to their religions. (Gandhi did the same with his wife, by the way-- no Western medicine, so she died, but guess who turned to Western medicine when HE got sick ( ... )

My icon says it all.

Well I'd like to say sooo much more, but I'm sleepy from night shift and pretty much worn down from the constant attacks on human freedom in the world.

A friend of mine had a similar situation and chose to carry the baby to birth. Wouldn't have been my choice, but she decided and I felt she had a right.

What occurs to me is that these people who make these insane, inhumane laws are actually terrified. Terrified perhaps that their friends would make decisions that would kill babies that otherwise would have lived, or that their children will pull the plug on their respirators when they still want to live. They're terrified of their fellow man. They have no faith in humanity, or their friends and family. They have no faith that people can make the best possible decision in situations where there is NO good answer.

People who enact fascist laws are usually scared. These people are scared. I wish I could figure out how to convince them not to be scared so they would stop torturing other people.

Frightened - and very sincere believers that they know the one true way. In clarifications, Flood has said that because some miracles happen and a supposedly terminal infant survives, all infants must be given the chance.

If that means a slow death for 99.99%, then that's what happens, as long as that one possibility is preserved.

I've seen that argument before - some people just honestly can't comprehend how people can have some kind of morality that isn't taken from the Bible (or other religious text of choice). It's a really depressing view of how they see humanity, as if everyone is just an animal pretending to be good, and without the leash of religion would fall into monstrosity.

Especially when basic morality-- don't kill, don't steal, treat others as you want to be treated-- comes from basic social behavior. Not even animals could live in groups without that kind of code.

Can I abdicate to a different species?
