I have to agree with you this week. I really liked the episode and I enjoyed watching it. Actually, I was sad when it was over and I had to drive to work (the opposite of last week *g

From what I've read during lunch break there wasn't a single comment in all discussion threads that had something negative to say. So I guess all fears were for nothing

Ahem. So. Rational thinky thoughts ahoy. Er I loved this ep, which you may have gathered already. I was not expecting anything from it as you know so I was really rather pleased with what we got. They actually seem to have checked their own previous writing for this ep as the Tony facts were all present & correct. No 1991 type insanity in sight. The way the relationship was portrayed worked really well; no abuse, but something of an emotional distance. From what I've read (and by golly there's a lot to read today!) everyone seems happy with what we got. Phew

I confess that after they heard about a 'back channel' spy report, I began to suspect that Di Nozzo senior was actually employed as a spy rather than the obvious con man. Considering their relationship, that career would have made sense, too, and would have granted the father more dignity.
When the bill was paid at the end, I was disappointed that DiNozzo Jr actually did it. I was sort of hoping it came from a more mysterious source.
Abby's comment that maybe Tony didn't have a mother but was cloned directly from his father cracked me up. Robert Wagner was perfect casting.
That could have worked well, especially given how obvious the 'he's come to tell his son he's broke' had been telegraphed earlier on - it would have made a very good red herring.
I hadn't thought about any other source, as even before it was paid I'd figured out DiNozzo Jnr was going to pay it.
They did play very well against one another.
Oh, yes, that's a good one, Nikki, delete the comment rather than post it (well I have been up for 13 hours already and it's only 4:15 p.m. here).
I'm not that surprised to hear your attention drifted. However, I do hope you enjoy your holdiay.
Pretty much all of them, I imagine.
But why has the writing suddenly changed this season? We know he's always been quirky and spins tales and can be very 'boyish' at times, but he's never made me uncomfortable and thinking 'what the heck are you saying/doing, Ducky'? Plus, I have noticed that Gibbs tends to react, only in a very understated (well hey, we're talking about Gibbs here) when Ducky does come out with the comment, as though he too is a tad surprised.
However, okay, I can buy to an extent it being because he's worried about his mother. I certainly prefer that to any alternative.
Don't forget to take a camera with you *g* Going down that path would not be good, IMHO.
Being number one or close in the ratings has got to be putting a lot of pressure on the writers. NCIS/LA certainly has placed pressure on the producing team. I honestly, truly, sincerely, think it's the writing. They have to focus on Gibbs, they have to focus on Tiva, they have to focus on McAbby, because the public attention, ie ratings, is more on those characters & those relationships. Again, with no disrespect intended I'm sure, I don't think anybody is paying much attention to writing Ducky in keeping with six seasons' worth of character history.
You could be completely correct, however, & I could end up needing extra shoes for my walk to California.
Let us agree to disagree, because I don't think it's the writing. I think it's deliberate and your previous theory re: his mother could well explain it.
This episode was a combination of oddness for me...
Since it was independent, unsure why they didn't move it to later in the season where it would be closer to fathers day...and thus not a plot repeat of Faith..I agree that it was close together for the same plot.
It was very very cool to see a location I know...the hotel being in LA and called the Biltmore...always that moment of 'oooh i know that place!'
I might have to rewatch it on a different day...as far too much of Gibb's 'talk' with Senior was button pushing for me last night for personal reasons...my father died 29 years ago yesterday and so Gibbs talking about the chance to know ones son as an adult..was hard to listen to for me.
and gah....I was mightily miffed by the Senior Junior thing....that's a trademark Indiana Jones thing..and so borrowing it...was rather troublesome...They would have been better with Anthony and Tony....
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it as a virtual repeat of 'Faith'.
Oh, that must have been cool.
Oh, I am sorry to hear that. I won't do you the discourtesy of saying I know how you must have felt, as I am fortunately not in the position, but I can have thoughts and also imagine how difficult it must have been for you to hear and watch that scene.
I wish they'd used Anthony and Tony and then for once I'd have used the names. I got rather tired of typing DiNozzo Snr.

But I thought maybe Dinozzo Sr was 'helping out' with the King and that the con man thing was only a cover.
