So Clamp and Sunrise walk into a bar

I dislike how fans seem to believe that were Geass actually written by Clamp, it would be a better series. Not that it doesn't rock as it is. But they're all like "Of course this isn't written by Clamp. Clamp would have never done [spoiler for 22]." And that Clamp > Sunrise. God help me, I love Sunrise. I love Clamp too, but I am not giving full ( Read more... )

Nayami, if you're going for Harry, you've got a chance of liking it. It is an enjoyable flik: It's just a bad one. The three tolorable characters are Harry, Marko Flynn, and Eddie Brock. Sandman (MarKo) is the best done of the bunch, and you can tell the director actually wanted to do him. Harry too, though there is a bit at the end at it Deus Ex MAchina or rather why the fuck did this not happen earlier.

To actually warn you, ok, the movie opens and closes with Mary Jane singing. You must know this or the pain of these scenes, of enduring the songs will drive you bat shit crazy.

^_^ I give it two broken computers out of ten, but if you cut the last 45 minutes to an hour out, I'd give it a six. Sorry, for the spoiler, but seriously, one needs to be prepared for that shit.

Hahaha, seriously, they say so? The only CLAMP work that clicked my awesomeness meter as a STORY is xxxHolic. They're good, and in a lot of ways CLAMP are goddesses, but master storytellers...not really, imo. They rely too much on, hmm, literary theatrics? Not that CG doesn't employ literary theatrics, but they're not as...exaggerated? CLAMP is like seeing Kinoko Nasu in bicurious manga form. Taniguchi has his faults---he tend to pace things REALLY weird, among other things---but I don't think he's automatically inferior as a storyteller.

I like CLAMP and Sunrise both, but I walk into their productions expecting different things. ALTHOUGH. Storytelling quality aside, what makes those fangirls think CLAMP would pull 22 off differently? The CLAMP I know revels in making its audience suffer for developing attachment to characters and delivering arbitrary fates. CLAMP's world is a cruel world (hello, Clover!), unless we're talking about Chobits, so what gives? And [spoiler]'s fate is not so different from Kotori, really?

I haven't been able to give my full and lasting to Clamp ever since they screwed me for X and then Legal Drug. I am bitter. I think Clamp has a true talent with characterizations of a certain few and fucking with your head by making the thing you least expect to happen happen. That's probably what you're referring to as literary theatrics. I just get irritated when people act like they can do no wrong. The newest fans brought in by Tsubasa and XXXholic often carry this belief because they have no been there to see Clamp truly dangle its readers ( ... )

Well, that, and they tend to exaggerate every damn emotion related to the unexpected event...plus...see also Clover and X...a lot of their reactions aren't very natural. It's much better in Tsubasa and esp xxxHolic, but the first still has too many of those events we're supposed to be shocked with. And after reading CLAMP for so many years, it's hard to be shocked, you know? XD And if the interview is correct, they also dangled Clover. And I don't think Clamp School Detectives was ever given a proper ending? Sure it's just a series of short, but I'd like to see some closure in my stories, dammit.

Re Fuuma : What, you mean Kamui's decision to tell Fuuma about being a Dragon of Heaven isn't the worst-timed accident ever? CLAMP does use arbitrary accidents. Sure, Fuuma has a rationality. Kamui's decision to tell Fuuma right there and then was completely innocent. And really, have they forgotten the 'Power will isolate you' clause? It's hardly unforeshadowed ( ... )
