So Clamp and Sunrise walk into a bar

I dislike how fans seem to believe that were Geass actually written by Clamp, it would be a better series. Not that it doesn't rock as it is. But they're all like "Of course this isn't written by Clamp. Clamp would have never done [spoiler for 22]." And that Clamp > Sunrise. God help me, I love Sunrise. I love Clamp too, but I am not giving full ( Read more... )

Well, that, and they tend to exaggerate every damn emotion related to the unexpected event...plus...see also Clover and X...a lot of their reactions aren't very natural. It's much better in Tsubasa and esp xxxHolic, but the first still has too many of those events we're supposed to be shocked with. And after reading CLAMP for so many years, it's hard to be shocked, you know? XD And if the interview is correct, they also dangled Clover. And I don't think Clamp School Detectives was ever given a proper ending? Sure it's just a series of short, but I'd like to see some closure in my stories, dammit.

Re Fuuma : What, you mean Kamui's decision to tell Fuuma about being a Dragon of Heaven isn't the worst-timed accident ever? CLAMP does use arbitrary accidents. Sure, Fuuma has a rationality. Kamui's decision to tell Fuuma right there and then was completely innocent. And really, have they forgotten the 'Power will isolate you' clause? It's hardly unforeshadowed.

The 'Lelouch should've been more cold-blooded' thing. Bleh. I hate that argument, and it reinforces my belief that a good part of his fanbase are his fans because of their addiction to badassery, and don't actually get Lelouch at all. (Which is a total shame, because Lelouch's character is arguably the best thing in CG) They want him to be more badass, because they're like Diethard, there : They follow this based on his killing of Clovis. And they want him to be more outwardly angstier, take darker options, be more....Subaru-ish lol. I can see him killing Euphie, I don't think he would, but I can see it---but not the massacre part. Lulu is NOT OKAY with massacres and it's amazing how many people don't get this. The point isn't him paying any price. The point is him knowing he has to pay any price but refuses to pay it, thinking he can weasel his way around war unless absolutely necessary. Intellectually, that makes him MORE badass, not that I care about badassery. Bah.

(OOC aside, I actually think a purposeful 22 would actually be...very shallow? He'd be a standard machiavellian character then, and no amount of angsting about it would change the fact since every damn machiavellian character except Raito does it. Sometimes I wonder if people just want the things they could predict from beginning to end, if brain comfort is preferable to good plotting?)
