Gillette spots the departing pirate ship

Dec 10, 2006 18:01

To calm himself down, Gillette looks over the leeward rail, expecting to see everything as it has been these past three days. But instead he sees the Pearl under sail, gathering way and heading out of the harbour ( Read more... )

I hate to leave you hanging, but RL is being a bitch and I've got finals this week. I'll get a reply in asap!

But I just wanted to say that "I'm going to have that lookout flayed and hung up by the skin of his scrotum, useless bloody bastard!" made me literally laugh out loud, and that is a very very good thing :)

*g* Hee! Glad you liked it :)

And don't worry at all - RL always comes first, particularly if it's finals!

Groves stares at the departing Pearl in bewilderment, but lowers his voice when he speaks with Gillette. "Do you think Kennedy might have gone of his own free will?" He suddenly remembers the slip Kennedy had made on the Eury.

As he watches the launch boat being readied, he feels a certain sense of duty and conviction and stands shoulder to shoulder with Gillette. "I'm coming with you. There isn't much good I can do here, anyway, with the rumours running around; like as not, they'll take a command from me as if I were a madman."

OOC: Ah, it's good to be back! Sorry this took so long to come about :)

"You might be right; it's the worst run ship I've ever been on," says Gillette, getting into the launch. "But damn it, if this slows us up and delays your cure, you're going to have to be very persuasive indeed to stop me from shooting Sparrow on sight."

He takes the ropes of boom and foresail, lets Groves take the tiller, and the small boat speeds out into the harbour, gaining on the departing Pearl. It is good to feel the wind and the sea again, even if he isn't sure exactly what they can do, if Sparrow decides to blow the little boat out of the water with the stern chasers. If they can only get within hailing distance, perhaps they can negotiate.

He raises an eyebrow and grins slightly, wind pushing at his hair and giving him a wild look. "I'm sure I could think of a good few things that I could persuade you with." He winks and stears the boat towards the Pearl.

As they gain on the black ship, he questions, "What are we to do once we come along side her?"

"Beg for mercy?" Gillette says, and laughs. This seemed like the inevitable thing to do at the time, but like many of his ideas, it's not turning out so well in the end.

"No, we'll hope they're not watching. I'll get you to the stern - you climb up while I go along side and distract them. You see if you can get to Kennedy and free him. Then we'll... take it from there."

Hanging from the railing, he pulls himself up just enough to peek over the edge, and when he's sure there is no one in the viscinity, he pulls himself the rest of the way up and swings over, landing silently on the deck. He slinks along the ship, ducking behind things when he sees a shadow. Finally, he sets a hand on the door to the great cabin, takes a deep breath, and yanks it open, rushing in with his pistol raised and ready.

And then he nearly drops it and his mouth falls open as he beholds Kennedy laughing, of all things, and Sparrow with both pride and hurt radiating from his eyes. "Um.. What's going on?"

"Was the tart worth the scar?", chuckled Sparrow. "Yes, he was!"

The pirate thought to continue with the saucy and sorted tale with a broad and naughty grin when suddenly....his kohl-lined eyes were overwhelmed with the sight of a pistol-wielding Lieutenant Groves.

What the...hell?, thought Sparrow. Damn.

(OOC: So glad I didn't say she, then)

Archie continued to laugh as the door opened and....

"Lieutenant Groves?"

the hell is he doing here?

Left speechless for a few minutes, Archie then blurted out the first thing he thought of:

"I wasn't kidnapped."

"Well, I can see that! But what on earth are you doing here?" I need to sit down.. And he did just that, placing himself in a chair that allowed him to watch both pirate and navy officer carefully.

"Gillette should be here soon," he says to no one in particular. I hope.

((ooc: Posting new comment. british_pickle pointed out the beginning of a drift off the page.))

Working together, Sparrow thought with a sligh sigh. Yes, they would.

"I too..suspect the Witch will be well-guarded....which will make for rousing good fun getting her free.", he smiled.

A hard rap to the cabin door interrupted Sparrow and one of his scruffy pirate crew opened the door. "Excuse, Cap'n...but we are almost out of the harbor.", he said. The pirate eyed the two new British officers with a slight smirk. "Will the gentlemen be staying aboard?"

"I believe they are.", replied Sparrow as he stood and began to approach his crewman. "They will be joining the Pearl on its mission...along with Mister Kennedy. Let me know when we are completely out of port." Sparrow moved closer to the pirate and leaned. "Tell the crew to play nice with the Navy lads, eh.", he said in a hushed voice. The crewman nodded and left Sparrow's cabin with a grunt of disapproval. Sparrow turned back to his company with a cheerful smile ( ... )

"I certainly will not lurk in here the whole trip as though I was afraid of your crew. If we're to work together, then yes, let's start now. But, Captain, I've never known a ship that had too many hands for all the work. I'm not too proud to scrub decks, hand and reef, look after the animals or even do the books. One researcher is enough. Let me work for my keep."

Sleeping in Sparrow's cabin? Despite the proud words, Gillette's heart sinks. If only all this had happened tomorrow morning, so he and Theo could have had their after dinner 'desert'. It looks as though it will be a long time before anything like that's possible here. Oh for his own cabin!

"Well, Mister Gillette...if you discover a chore onboard my ship which you feel you can fulfill, by all means, you shall have my full support.", replied Sparrow.

The pirate looked to young Kennedy. Maybe the cool air will blow away some of the rum swimming in our heads, thought Sparrow with a smile. "Mister Kennedy, would you do me the honor of joing me on deck?"

"Ah, of course, sir." A bit surprised by the request, Archie got up. He went and held the door open for Sparrow.
