On the deck of the Indy

Gillette. Great.

Of all people that could be on watch, it would be him. He did not like Sparrow and Sparrow liked egging him on. Well, at least Groves could help keep the two of them apart.

Archie walked up to the two, Sparrow close behind, and said, "We're going to the Euryalus to consult Dr. Maturin about the logs." Then he gave a cheeky grin ( Read more... )

He laughs again. "I can imagine that, despite your granddad's age, he and my sister would have played all sorts of tricks on multiple neighborhoods. She probably would have brought me along, too, to learn from the best."

Groves chuckles, leaning sideways against the taffrail. He sees Kennedy and Sparrow approaching and nods to them, shifting closer to Gillette in case.. well, in case something happens.

A glance over the other two, and then he looks back at Gillette. "I would like to ask Dr. Maturin if there is anything further he can suggest about.." He gestures to his chest and trails off, flicking his eyes briefly to Sparrow, then back.

He doesn't know whether to feel annoyed or amused at the way everyone seems to assume he's going to do something hideously irrational around Sparrow. Don't they realize he's quite capable of telling the difference between dealing with a privateer and dealing with a pirate?

It's a wrench to leave this little fantasy world of domestic intimacy and face reality again, but if the fantasy is ever to stand a chance of coming true, then action is needed now.

"If Maturin is finally back on board the Euralus then of course you must not lose a second in consulting him," he says. It's the rational thing to do, after all, no matter how much the unworthy part of him notices the glance at Sparrow and broods jealously over what it might mean. "I wish you every success - I only wish I could come too."

"Well, you could..." Groves waggles his eyebrows, grinning at the suggestion of Gillette completely disregarding the fact that it's his watch and coming with them. And then he laughs uproariously as Gillette's expression darkens in warning.

"No! No, I was kidding, it was just a joke! There are some things I know not to neglect, no matter how tempting." He knows that Kennedy and Sparrow have no idea why he's laughing, and he enjoys that fact. Another little thing he can share with just Gillette.

"I'll see you at dinner," And don't forget about desert, his eyes finish. He joins Kennedy and Sparrow, still chuckling.

Archie arched an eyebrow at Groves's laughter, then shrugged. Must be an inside joke.

"Well, you're welcome to join us, Mr. Groves." Then Edrington popped up. Archie stiffened a bit. I forgot about Alex! He'll go mad when I disappear!

"Uh, yes! It was."

Having finished writing a letter in his cabin, and hearing voices in the wardroom, which seemed to indicate that the confidential naval conference was over, Edrington decided to return on deck and find out what was going on.

Seeing Lieutenants Kennedy, Gillette, and Groves, and, to his surprise, the pirate Sparrow standing together, he strolls over to greet them.

"Hello, gentlemen. I trust your meeting with the Commodore was productive?"

Gillette stiffens. He would have preferred it if someone else could have dealt with the English nobleman, but no one else seems to be answering him. "It was, thank you my Lord," he says. Though of course it was nothing of the kind, he's not about to admit it infront of this man. Then, thinking that an explanation is in order he adds, less grudgingly, "Captain Sparrow has been given Letters of Marque. He'll be working with us against the Spanish."

Edrington watches Gillette carefully; unable to break the habits of command, he has marked him a potential troublemaker, although it's really none of his business. But the man seems less agitated than he did earlier, and certainly more civil. The news about Captain Sparrow is surprising- from what Edrington has seen of him, he's a dangerous and unpredictable scallawag, hardly an ideal ally. But again, it's a Naval affair, and out of his control.
"Ah. I don't believe I've had the pleasure, Captain- Major Edrington, 95th Foot."
Of course, he thinks wryly as he introduces himself, I was sitting in the wardroom when you showed up and threatened Lietenant Gillette. But it would seem that that incident is best forgotten now.
Edrington notices Archie overseeing the preparation of a boat, and wonders if he's going somewhere.
